Saving the Best for Last: Footage for Eagerly Anticipated “John Wick: Chapter 4” Brings Down the Curtains at CinemaCon

After days of headline-making movie news at the annual CinemaCon, the lucky folks that were fortunate enough to attend – those proprietors of dreams known as movie theater owners – ended the entire shebang by viewing footage from what is arguably the most eagerly anticipated movie on cinephile’s dance cards, John Wick: Chapter 4.

According to our most excellent pals over at The Hollywood Reporter, movie studio Lionsgate took to the stage yesterday to tease the forthcoming John Wick sequel. This being CinemaCon, an affair known for its lavish reveals from Hollywood for what fans can look forward to in the coming months, Lionsgate did not cheap out when it came to unspooling the action-packed sizzle reel. Star of the John Wick franchise Keanu Reeves was on hand alongside the fourth movie’s director Chad Stahelski to present the first look at one of 2022’s most looked forward to big screen offerings.

Charging onto the main stage, Reeves and Stahelski were gifted with raucous applause from an audience of 3,000 that was still coming down off of a weeklong high courtesy of sneak peaks of such genre films as ‘Salem’s Lot and Halloween Ends. Starting with some scripted remarks as a preamble to introducing the new Wick footage, Reeves quickly pivoted to improve when the Teleprompter suffered some technical issues.

“I first met you, Chad, when we were doing The Matrix in 1998,” the I Love You to Death star ad-libbed. “I think that’s the movie where we forged the fire of our creative bond through the Wachowski school of cinema and storytelling. It’s been an honor to build these stories with you.” Reeves then went on to exhort the virtues of the new Wick film, explaining that it was “a celebration of fight choreography, balletic action and storytelling that can only happen through movement.”

The scenes that were teased are unfortunately not yet available for public consumption (apparently CinemaCon is one of the few venues left in the world where pirated technology has yet to wrap its ugly tentacles around), but descriptions of the sizzle reel quickly made the rounds: Super-crazy fight sequences, Keanu galloping around the desert on a horse and a nemesis being introduced by the titular character to a little bit of a bruiser in the form of nunchucks.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to kick into movie theaters on March 24, 2023!
