INTERVIEW: The Age of Ore

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Good! We’re super excited share what’s been going on with us. We’ve been super busy with lots of cool new opportunities and experiences.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Forsaker”?
The song was written about three years ago in our bassist Deven’s basement and it turned into one of our favorite songs, as well as one of our fans’ favorite songs. Musically, I think the song builds really well, and the climax of the song is just one of those song parts that makes you want to punch someone in the face in the best way possible.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
The 2020 civil unrest in lots of American cities caused the idea for the topic and video.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
It was awesome! We filmed it in one day at Fort Mott, New Jersey. The place is a state park and part of a defense system created along the Delaware River after the Civil War. It was lots of fun to shoot at. We hooked up with a great videographer, Zach from Sandbar Films who made the whole process a ton of fun! It was more like a day just hanging out with everyone. The heat kind of sucked since we filmed in July, but it was a memorable day!

The single comes off your new album Malevolent – what’s the story behind the title?
Honestly, the songs on the album kind of deal with darker societal topics, and therefore I thought Malevolent was an appropriate title

How was the recording and writing process?
The recording process is very rewarding for us, because we get to see this idea turn into just a barebones basic song, and we get to produce it until it becomes a fully thought out composure. The way we write is a little different from the normal way of writing. Usually I will come up with an idea, and create a first riff from it, and then we will all come together and throw ideas off of each other in order to create something we’re all happy with.

How would you say your age influences your work?
Our age makes it harder, in my opinion at least, to come up with lyrical ideas, but not necessarily music. Because we’re relatively young, we admittedly have a lack of life experience that can on one hand, sometimes prevent us from writing super profound, introspective lyrics. On the other hand, that causes us to look outside of ourselves for inspiration, such as current events in the world. I don’t think our age really prevents us from coming up with musical ideas. I do, however, think a vital factor in writing music is having excellent chemistry between band members. I also would definitely say that we have excellent chemistry, being that Luke (our drummer) and I (Jake) are brothers, and we have known Deven (our bassist) for such a long time that he is like a brother to us.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
If I’m not able to pull a profound personal experience from my personal life experience and write about it, I usually look to current events to help bring light to something I care about that needs to be seen…I want to offer something people can learn from, while also giving an opinion about it.

What else is happening next in The Age of Ore’s world?
We are super excited for our future! We have an insane amount of momentum and things working for us, and we are taking advantage of every opportunity that comes our way. We just finished up our first tour which will be produced into a reality TV show called RiseUpTV. We toured a little of the east coast on a bus with 4 other band and it was an awesome experience! Saty tuned for that to air toward the end of 2022. Also we are headed down to North Carolina to play at the Wampus Cat Music Festival, a 3 day event headlined by Everclear. There are tons of other amazing bands that will be playing on three stages and we are super psyched to be part of it!

Also, we are in the studio recording new material right now, so stay tuned for some new music from us this summer.

We’re all really excited to see where all this momentum this takes us!
