Bristol, UK-based band Pet Shimmers return today with the announcement of their “Sonder” b/w “Edgelord” 7-inch, out June 17th via Brokers Tip, the label of Pavement’s Bob Nastanovich. Today’s furious “Sonder” builds off the momentum of their 2020 efforts Trash Earthers and Face Down in Meta, both of which found unprecedented support on Bandcamp with multiple vinyl pressings selling out immediately. Arriving with an accompanying video, “Sonder” paves its own reckoning. It’s a moving mass of technicolor instrumentation – sparkling guitar, taut percussion, and crashes of noise. Songwriter Oliver Wilde’s poetic paranoia climbs towards a victorious chorus. It was the first track the group wrote following COVID restrictions, and was recorded at The Louisiana, a crucial grassroots venue in England that acts as a basement studio by night and a rehearsal space during the day.
“It was an obvious choice to return with this song, not especially because it came along right at the beginning, but because in many ways it represents the sonic philosophy of the entire record,” says guitarist Richard Clarke. “Our last release was for sure maximalist, so this time around we really endeavored to create something more pared down and refined. When the opportunity to do a release with Brokers Tip came around we were so excited, and of course, wanted to put our best foot forward.”
Bob Nastanovich adds: “Considering the source of the music files (Bristol’s young wit and raconteur Richard Walsh) and the decorated personnel in play, I had heightened expectations for the tuneage of Pet Shimmers. Usually, that works against my enjoyment of something I haven’t heard. Pet Shimmers easily overcame that. They serve up an unique twist. Get in.”

Pet Shimmers is an eclectic ensemble made of a collaborative core; solo artist (and recent Katy J Pearson collaborator) Oliver Wilde helms songwriting alongside William Carkeet, emerging producer and one half of London duo Robbie & Mona. Newest recruit Jonny Allan once took center stage duties for the influential Happyness, drummer Mig Schillace spent earlier years drumming for Portishead, and bedroom solo project Soft Den sits with Florrie AL. Melody extraordinaire Lexie Jennings and guitarist Rich Clarke complete the ensemble.
The “Sonder” b/w “Edgelord” 7” is the first piece of new music to come from Pet Shimmers since 2020. There is much more to come in 2022.
