It wasn’t long ago that the tag #bass-metal was a thing. From Sinister Souls and Excision to Zardonic it seemed like a DJ inspired genre was giving birth to this tag. Yet as commercialism and hip hop dominated this genre, the leaders of the genre all but dropped the tag in search for a more commercial land, bass metal as a tag was left abandoned. Not even Zardonic uses that tag to define himself anymore, industrial bass is what Zardonic and the heavy bass scene calls itself now.
Insert Luna 13, a bass music project that is ferocious was sitting in the dark, waiting for a day to pounce of its prey and take that tag #bass metal as their very own. Not only did the projects abandoning the tag leave it open to Luna 13 to claim it, they left this tag wide open for Luna 13 to define it as well.

Luna 13 is brutal, punishing, dark and gives metalheads something new to ponder. When Luna 13 hits the stage and dark goddess vocalist Lilith Bathory starts to breathe fire and Dr Luna drops the bass destruction, it’s clear that the tag #bass-metal and Luna 13 were a match made in heaven, oops, I mean hell.
Luna 13 is 10 shades darker and more brutal than anyone doing the tag# industrial Bass. Those music projects using that tag all seem to be hoping to catch some commercial wave and ride it to the bank as Luna 13 seems to consistently get more aggressive in their darkness and more explosive in sound. Metalheads are paying attention as Luna 13 is headlining Metal festivals and the first few rows at live Luna 13 show bang their heads! I saw it on a video live at a “Drac House” event in downtown LA and it blew my mind.

We asked Dr Luna to define Bass Metal and here was his response. “Bass Metal” is heavy bass music that relies on metal song structure. The drums and vocals are systematic to death metal yet the stuffing is blackened bass music. It’s essentially bass music with death or black Metal drums with a black or death metal approach to the vocals.” So here is the tag# “Bass Metal is bass music with metal song structure that has death or black metal drums and vocals. Now about the single which is a perfect display of Bass Metal.”

Its title, literally “the seeds of fire” was inspired by the words of a woman addressing Russian soldiers in these terms: “Take these seeds and put them in your pockets, so at least sunflowers will bloom on your corpses”.
