Frazer Lepford has done what most artists have to do to achieve what they want with their ambitions, and that’s finding his own embellished and individual sound. Through a string of releases and hundreds of thousands of streams on Spotify alone, Frazer delves into the funk and soul genres with pop sensibilities entwined. Starting out by busking in the streets in South West England, he has honed his craft into a fresh and organic sound, resulting in a loyal following from his startup days.
Previous success include Amazon Music’s ‘Breakthrough’ editorial playlists in UK, US France and Spain, as well as constant support from BBC Introducing. He now begins 2022 with an upbeat and soulful pop offering in ‘Didn’t Mean To Make You Cry’. Possessing a smooth and stylish production, with groove laden bass lines typical of Lepford’s roots as an artist, the track also brings through a modernised edge to it that can only be immersed through listening.
Reminiscent of early Plan B days in his vocal tonality and melodic flow, Frazer Lepford has no trouble in writing a catchy pop song with all of his talents at his disposal, and the clever use of hooky guitar riffs and brass only add to the mix in what is a subtle yet masterful blend of instrumentation. ‘Didn’t Mean To Make You Cry’ is a breakup song that will speak to the masses, and is Lepford’s most intriguing release to date.
We get to talk about the new single and more!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Didn’t Mean To Make You Cry”? Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
The inspiration behind Didn’t mean to make you cry actually come from a siblings relationship that had just run it’s course really.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
There is a music video out now over on my YouTube.
How was the recording and writing process?
The process for making the track went really smoothly actually. I wrote the song in a day and as I was writing the song could already hear how it was going to turn out so by the time I was in the studio recording it the music sort of flowed naturally.
What role does South West England play in your music?
South west has been great I’ve built a good following around my area and a lot of loyal supporters that come to my shows and a radio stations like the bbc have helped a lot too.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along? Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Yeah there’s a lot of songs I’m sat on right now waiting to release it’s just all about timing and when I’m ready to release them. But as didn’t mean to make you cry was part of a 6 track EP I’ve just released called ‘Back Down to Earth’ I think I’ll shoot a few more music videos for a few of the tracks before releasing any new music. New music will probably be coming more the second half of this year now.
What else is happening next in Frazer Lepford’s world?
What’s happening next for me like I say back in the studio getting some music videos done and then start recording the new releases for the second half of this year. Apart from that just gigging, gigging and more gigging.
