Good news for our country’s market for industrial vehicles in terms of demand and the register that accounts for registrations, which only demonstrates the strength of road freight transport activity once the balance of registrations for January shows a growth of 13.9% compared to the same month of 2021 and is at the same level as January 2020, when the pandemic was neither there nor was it expected. There is an increase in sales, including spare parts and accessories for heavy machinery, in several countries recorded by truck marketplaces, one of which is Truck1.
With a total of 2,127 new trucks delivered last month, the figure places the market at the same level as the average of the last five years, which makes it possible to conclude the effect of contraction in demand linked to the economic slowdown that (in freight transport much lighter than in other sectors) caused the pandemic.
In any case, the favorable data in the accounting of registrations do not in any way hide the serious problem that fully affects the activity of selling new trucks, which suffers as never before from the lack of productive capacity to meet demand due to the crisis in the supply of components, especially microchips. The positive evolution of the market must be linked only and exclusively to the behavior of the tractor segment
Thus, with a manufacturing rate of new trucks that could approach to some extent the level of demand for units by carriers, it is not difficult to guess that the registration data would be notably more positive than those resulting from last month of January.
Analysis by truck segments
In the analysis by product category, the balance between light industrial (more than 3.5 t and up to 6 t) was negative, with a decrease of 28.6% and 25 units registered. In the case of medium-sized manufacturers, there was a very slight drop of 0.5%, with a total of 196 deliveries.
Already in the heavy category (more than 16 tons), rigid vehicles registered a drop of 6% in January with a total of 264 registrations. In this way, the positive evolution of the market must be linked only and exclusively to the behavior of the tractor segment, which in January registered a more than notable increase of 21.3%, with a total of 1,642 registered units.
Within this segment, which last month accounted for 77% of the market, the classification by brand places Volvo in first position with 307 vehicles and an increase of 49.8% compared to the same month in 2021, ahead of DAF (259). and 36.3%), Mercedes-Benz (241 and 7.1%), MAN (233 and 49.4%), Renault Trucks (203 and 23.8%), Iveco (199 and 3.1%), Scania (171 and -14.5%), Ford Trucks (27 and 28.6%) and BMC (two units compared to none two months ago as they are not yet present in our market).
The market for trucks and other heavy equipment is booming as the flow of goods and services increases post-pandemic. The decline in mortality rates due to Covid-19 has decreased considerably, and in turn, increased trade and truck buying as one of the implications.
