A James Bond Competition Show?!? It’s Headed Our Way from Amazon Prime

What must the ghosts of former James Bonds – Sean Connery, David Niven and Roger Moore – make of the breaking news from our 007 pals over at Variety that the vaunted Bond franchise has decided to branch out into the world of the competition show? No doubt they’d have at least a good guffaw over such a concept before ordering a Vesper Martini (shaken, not stirred) from fellow movie spy James Coburn before moving on to which among them had the better take on Ian Fleming’s iconic character.

A James Bond competition show entitled 007’s Road to a Million has gotten the go-ahead to begin production from streaming behemoth Amazon Prime.

Consisting of eight episodes, the new reality competition series will find eager Bond wannabe’s competing in a globetrotting adventure with an end goal to scoop up a hefty grand-prize of $1.3 million smackers. Lest you die-hard Bond fans think this is nothing but a quick money grab, rest easy: The show proper will have many of its challenges set in noted filming locations of past Bond films. Not enough to whet your fickle appetite? The series will also feature something called the “Cinematic Format” which will test competitor’s keen intelligence and physical prowess. The folks throwing in their lot for this new show will be put in teams of two where they will endeavor to answer correctly questions that are discreetly hidden throughout the world. If those questions are successfully answered, the duo then moves on to further challenges.

What lucky mensch will guide this freshman reality series through its paces? Look no further than a creature called Dom Bird, a past employee of Channel 4 who recently joined MGM to run roughshod over the studio’s international and unscripted department. Joining him in this iteration of all things Bond will be fellow adventurers David Glover, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli; adventurers all (as well as being executive producers)!

Still on the fence about this one, Dear and Constant Reader? With production gearing up on the series to start later in the year, you still have time to consider the possibility of watching at least the inaugural episode over a couple of whiskey sours. The show will officially launch on Amazon Prime in over 240 countries and territories.

We’ll keep everyone posted on any and all updates on 007’s Road to a Million as more info becomes known to us!
