Hi Walker County, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
We have been amazing! We’ve been super busy with radio tour and shows! After a year like last year, we are super excited to be as busy as we are!
Can you tell us more about your latest single “Liar?”
“Liar” is basically about faking it ‘till you make it! Pretending like you don’t like someone but really, you do – we have all done it! We wanted to touch on that vulnerable feeling of liking someone and feeling like you need to trick yourself out of feeling that way.
What was the inspiration behind writing the song?
A few years ago we were driving together and I was asking Sophie if she liked this guy and she told me she didn’t, but I just knew she was lying no matter how many times she denied it. We both thought it would make for a good song and be a fun, lighter take on lying. Whether you like someone or you are going through a breakup, the inspiration behind the song is those little lies we tell ourselves and people around us to make ourselves feel a little better or make the situation a little less painful.
This follows up a great single and also your first release to radio, “Bits & Pieces.” What was your reaction the first time you heard that song?
Sophie and I immediately fell in love with this song the first time we heard it! We received the demo of this song, with a male vocalist originally singing the lyrics. We cranked it up in the car and knew that we wanted to put our own female spin on the song!
How was the recording process?
We had a lot of fun recording this song! We had a smile on our faces the whole time we were recording the vocals! We threw some gang vocals on it to give it the perfect party feel!
How was the filming process and experience behind the music video?
Sophie and I really wanted the music video to feel like the party of our dreams! Lots of confetti, tequila, and glitter! Our director Bobby Hanaford made our dream a reality. It really did feel like a party while we were shooting the video. Bobby would yell “Cut” and the whole cast would keep dancing and laughing because we were all genuinely having a good time!
What was the moment you first heard it on the radio like?
The first time we got to hear Bits & Pieces on the radio was on 103.3 in Nashville at 7:30 in the morning. Sophie and I had just rolled out of bed because we had been told there was a possibility they would be playing our song that morning! Our parents were both there as well, so the moment was extra special! We filmed our reaction and posted it because we were so pumped!
What role does Nashville play in your music?
Sophie and I moved to Nashville 7 years ago when Sophie was only 16 and I was 19, so we have learned so much from this town! The talent of the writers and musicians is incredible in Nashville, so you naturally are influenced by such a talented town!
What advice would you give to siblings looking to pursue a music career together?
Luckily Sophie and I have a very strong bond, and are best friends, as well as sisters! We get along very easily, but one big piece of advice is communication! Sophie and I could disagree about something, but when we sit down and talk it out we usually can come to an agreement!
What did the moment you learned you were signing with Warner Music Nashville mean to you?
It was definitely a sign that we were meant to be doing music! Having a label so big and world wide recognize the talent that we had meant so much to us! Just knowing they believed in our music as much as we did gave us so much confidence!
What else is happening next in Walker County’s world?
More new music and more touring! We have been writing a ton and have so many new songs we can’t wait to share with y’all! Also, we have so many more shows coming up, so make sure you check our walkercountymusic.com to see all of our upcoming shows!
