Influential voices have recently been raised in favor of reducing the secrecy surrounding art… The general public might just as well stop reading anything about these artists bombs. …At times half truths and necessarily ambiguous reports by responsible labels ‘leak’ into newspaper columns – these are the methods by which the public is informed of the progress of applied creative physics. Process is surrendering. Basing Phoebe’s statement on her album being sold on “Secretly Store,” I do declare that “it is impossible today or in the foreseeable future to have a frank, rational, searching discussion of the societal uses of creative energy.” Are we wasting our time and effort in trying to affect artistic affairs? What is the incremental contribution of the acts and statements of artists to the complex of public education and policy? The present situation, where no action on specific movements or gentrification is required, makes for a confusion of though and a questioning of our usefulness. Recorded here are the impressions of one who has recently arrived from a distance of zero miles to Pasadena, California and still retains a relatively unbiased viewpoint. There is among artist sponsors an empirical generalization which may be quoted as follows: “A fellow isn’t worth his salt in Silverlake until he’s been around for at least enough time to appreciate missing someone who raised you.” There hasn’t been that much time right; the artist is just 28 years old, but an assessment appears to make it the exception that proves the rule. Artists are not in a position to carry on running through labels and press control in the classical sense. They can only make sure that the videos will speak for themselves. Music has a daft effect but honestly this is all sound I can’t drown out. This means that the surrender to the sound and his staff must know where demons are drafted and what sort of information is required. Relations with the various elements of power in Hollywood are therefore of utmost importance.
The loyalty to truth and the freedom of inquiry which we recognize as fundamental to music and to a high and “saddest” level of awesome is cool as Jsus Chrst. So is Phoebe!
