There are a couple ways in which Paramount+ is after my heart. One is the fact the Champions League is on there. The other is the old-school Nickelodeon that is all over the streaming service. This week, I am recommending two vintage shows as much for the novelty and the look back as the quality. Hey, there are worse ways to spend your weekend.
Hey Dude was one of the first original shows on Nickelodeon, as it started airing in the 1980s. The show focuses on some teenagers who live and work at a dude ranch. Christine Taylor was on the show! Hey Dude isn’t great. It isn’t even necessarily all that good. However, it is historical. It’s a Nick show that precedes Doug, Clarissa Explains It All, and basically every classic Nick show. Hey Dude walked so these shows could run.
Then, there’s You Can’t Do That On Television. Now, this sketch show is a Canadian show that ended up airing on Nickelodeon, but it is a Nick show, or at least it became one. It actually barely eked into the 1990s, but began airing on Nickelodeon in 1981. It’s also what introduced green slime to Nickelodeon. Only one season is on Paramount+, but honestly that’s fine. If you’ve seen one episode you’ve seen them all. However, you should definitely check it out. It’s television history!
