We’re happy to spend some time today with respected DJ and producer B Jones; welcome to our humble pages, B! Three months into the New Year, how is your 2022 treating you?
Hey! thanks for inviting me , its a pleasure. I can’t believe we are already 3 months in 2022!! I was so focused in the studio working hard to make new songs for 2022 that I didnt see the days passing by …time really flies !
You’re a respected and renowned DJ and producer. What was the genesis of these twin professions for you? Is there a Secret Origin story you could share with us?
The story is long, I was an 11-year-old girl when I discovered it because of a DJ close to the family and I fell in love! At the time I lived in a small town and I never saw a female DJ, so I never thought it could be something easy for me. When I was 18 years old I moved to Ibiza in the summer to work as a waitress and there, at Pacha Ibiza, I saw the first female deejay in my life, it was Sarah Main. I still remember the feeling and how my head kept telling me “I’m made for this”, but I didn’t have time to start. I was married and a shortly after I got pregnant and with many, many, many problems… I became a single mother, got divorced and I moved to Madrid with my daughter to try and give her the best possible future. I worked very hard and coincidentally I ended up being an event organizer, booking artists etc. When my daughter was 7 years old I decided that it was the time for me to follow my dream. I bought some CDJs and started practicing every night, sending DJ mixes to clubs and being my own manager. Just 1 year later I was a resident DJ at Pacha Ibiza with Sarah Main!!! I came back to live in Ibiza, I started working with Vanessa, who is still my manager, and here I am!! On the way to Tomorrowland where I will play a song I made for my daughter, because she is turning 18 this summer!!!!!!
You have a new song entitled I Fall in Love which is set to drop on March 11. What can you tell us about this particular tune?
I fall in love is a song that I wrote the lyrics completely. My plan was to create a song that would make my mother, my daughter, my sister, my manager, my boyfriend dance at the same time! all of them with a different taste in music, and I got it!! About the lyrics: My boyfriend who is a great producer, made a song for me a while ago, so I wrote this one for him. It was funny to be writing the song at home, while I was saw him everyday. Once it was finished, I surprised him with it.
Word ‘round campfire has it that you’re inching very close to starting your own record label. What can you tell us about this?
Yes!!! ComeCloser records is my new label, it will also be launched in April 2022 with a track that I am sure will be essential for many deejays with the same style as me.
Do you have any news you can share with fans about a possible upcoming album? Is this something music lovers might want to keep an eye out for?
My first single will be my own version of ‘Bella Ciao’, and it will surprise a lot people! I have been thinking about making this version for years, but in the style I wanted, so tech house. But I wanted to keep the chorus in the drop, it was really difficult, until I found the way! In addition, it is sung by a sweet female voice, a combination of tech house power with that sweet female touch… I love it!
As a noted songwriter, which comes first for you: The lyrics or the music?
Until now almost always was the music, but the last three tracks that I finished, the lyrics have come first. I started to create them with a message to someone or everyone. For instance, there is one dedicated to my daughter, which I mentioned earlier
When COVID-19 hit, you took that as an opportunity to launch an online music academy for aspiring music artists. What’s in the future for this brilliant online tutorial?
It has been an interesting experience for me, from which I have learned a lot and I have once again become infected with that illusion of the boys and girls who are starting out. But right now it’s on hold, because I need to spend a lot of time in the studio and thank god we can tour again! Nonetheless, I’m still in touch with everyone and give them advise if they have any question or doubt.
How does your family feel about all of your success?
They are happy for me, they have seen me struggling a lot and now they are proud and support me a lot!
Major congratulations are in order for all of the exciting things going on for you! Starting at the top, you’ve been announced as playing the stage this summer at the Tomorrowland Main Stage in Belgium. What does this honor mean to you both professionally and personally?
I am literally living a dream, I am very grateful and all I think about is to work hard to make my manager, Tomorrowland and everyone who has always supported me proud, to see me on that stage!
Will this performance be relegated to just one day, or will there be even more of a presence from you this year at Tomorrowland?
I’ll play 3 days!! First day of the festival on MAINSTAGE (15/7 ), second weekend B2B with Kryder on Sexy By Nature Stage (24/7) and last weekend back on MAINSTAGE (29/7). And I’ve beent old, I am the First Spanish artist who ever played on the MAINSTAGE at Tomorowland
Just to accent how very in demand you are, you will also be appearing at Mysteryland which is near Amsterdam. What can you tell our readers about this particular venue performance?
Get ready to dance! I am looking forward to being on this stage, also on MAINSTAGE. I have a lot of Dutch friends and Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities! I am also very excited about other festivals, such as PAROOKAVILLE in Germany and NEVERSEA in Romania, and many more to be announce. For all of them I’m on the main stage, it´s just unbelievable and I am super grateful for all this.
How did the worldwide pandemic affect your touring schedule?
Everything stopped for almost 1 year and in 2020 I only had 20% of my usual shows. But everything is back to normal, and I am always very positive. This year I will be playing all over the world again!
Where do you see yourself professionally in three years?
Continuing to tour, clubs and big festivals like now and I would love to be more successful as a producer.
Final – SILLY! – Question: You’re having a dinner party and can invite any three people, alive or deceased. Who do you invite and why?
At this time on the planet, I would like to have dinner with only 2, Putin and Zelenskiy. Making sure that Putin shakes hands with Zelenskiy and stops this war.
