Critically Acclaimed Comedy Series “Sort Of” Gets a Season 2 Renewal from HBO Max and CBC

There’s just no ‘sort of’ about it: According to our on the money bookies over at The Hollywood Reporter, the critically lauded and fan-favorite comedy series Sort Of has officially graduated from a freshman season and been given the green light to induce more laughter from audiences the world over in a sophomore season.

The brainchild of creators Bilal Baig and Fab Filippo, Sort Of features Baig as a genderfluid millennial called Sabi Mehboob – the youngest of a big Pakistani family- attempting to juggle a multitude of tasks including bartending at a bookstore and café and acting as a caregiver to the kids of an on-the-go professional couple. The series has been a particular favorite, having garnered a grand sum of thirteen highly coveted nominations from the Canadian Screen Awards. As if that’s not enough in the laurels department, Sort Of also received major love from our aforementioned pals at The Hollywood Reporter, whose chief TV critic named the series one of the ten best series of last year.

In a press release announcing the season two renewal, Baig enthused that “We are so thrilled that we are able to dive back into the worlds of Sort Of, and to keep exploring the evolution of all our characters (including some new ones!) as they continue to investigate who they are in the world as friends, family members, lovers and human beings.”

Senior Vice President of International Originals at HBO Max Jeniffer Kim enthusiastically added that “Baig and Filippo’s honest and insightful storytelling is a lesson in unraveling conventional views of identity. We could not be more excited to partner with CBS and Sienna Films on another season of this very special show.”

Along with having created this nifty new series, Baig and Filippo also are burning the midnight oil by serving as showrunners on Sort Of as well as executive producers alongside Jennifer Kawaja of Sienna Films.

Sort Of speaks to the complexity of being human with wit, warmth and an authentic sense of inclusivity, thanks to the distinct voices of Bilal and Fab,” General Manager of Entertainment at CBC chimed in. Sort Of has struck such a powerful chord with audiences, and we are thrilled to work with HBO Max and Sienna Films on the next chapter of Sabi’s story.”

We’ll be sure to swing by with a release date and any and all new information on the new season of Sort Of as soon as the magical Hollywood fortune cookie updates us!
