That’s a Wrap: After 44 Years, Jamie Lee Curtis Says Goodbye to Her Iconic Role from “Halloween”

For anyone that follows my pop culture beat here at Vents, it’s no secret that I’ve written my fair share of obituaries for actors, directors, musicians and everyone in-between that has contributed to the world of entertainment. It’s not a job I particularly savor; most of the folks whose loss I lament I’m a tremendous admirer of and I take their passing personally. How could I not? All of them, be it in big ways or small, have informed my own love and passion for the nutty world of movies, music and writing. Yet it’s the closing of a chapter on a beloved fictional protagonist from a long-running horror movie franchise that I’m writing about today that has me inexplicably bumming out in ways I hadn’t anticipated.

According to our pals over at Bloody Disgusting News, actress Jamie Lee Curtis has officially wrapped her last shooting day on the upcoming Halloween Ends, a movie which is being touted as the capstone in the long-running and very bloody sage of The Shape (A.K.A. Michael Myers). This marks an official ending to the actresses 44 year off-and-on portrayal of iconic Final Girl Laurie Strode and her quest to put the Boogey Man down once and for all.

Curtis took to Instagram to mark the milestone moment, saying that this was “A bittersweet END for me on the Halloween movies. I’ve made great friends and have collaborated with wonderful artists on these three movies and today my part in the film has been completed and with it the END for me of this trilogy. It’s all because of the fans who have always supported me and more importantly, Laurie…I love this crew and cast and I will miss you all.”

In Halloween Ends four years have passed since the brutal events of Halloween Kills, yet Laurie Strode is convinced that Michael Myers has one final trick up his sleeve for her and her family and friends.

All fans of horror films owe a huge debt to the gremlins that first brought Halloween to the silver screen back in October of 1978 and it somehow seems odd that the story of Laurie Strode which Curtis so effortlessly nailed time and again (even when the occasional clunky script got in her way) has moved on to greener pastures. This fan will miss her, at least.

Halloween Ends premieres October 14, 2022.
