The Los Pollos Hermanos boss walks into his home in a new trailer. This suggests that some of his secrets may finally be exposed.
The trailer for Better Call Saul season 6 suggests that the mysteries surrounding Gus Fring’s past will be finally solved. The prequel series to Breaking Bad follows James “Jimmy” McGill (Bob Odenkirk), as he becomes Saul Goodman. Season 6 will premiere on April 18. There are many secondary characters in the series, but Gustavo “Gus” Fring (Giancarlo Esposito), is the most intriguing. Gus is seen entering his home in the trailer. This suggests that some of his secrets may finally be revealed.
Gus is the only character viewers are familiar with, even though he appears in Breaking Bad as well as Better Call Saul. Gus’s not-so-realistic death is recorded in Breaking Bad season 4 episode 13, “Face Off”. However, the restaurant boss (whose Los Pollos Hermanos is a front for his underground methamphetamine distribution that is financed by German company Madrigal Electromotive) only ever divulges small details about his life. Gus is a brazen philanthropist who uses philanthropy in order to promote an anti-drug message while making multi-million-dollar distribution deals with the Mexican cartel. This is Gus’s revenge on Maximino Arciniega (James Martinez), who Gus worked with in Mexico to make meth. It was revealed in Breaking Bad season 4, episode 10, “Salud”. We don’t know much about the training Gus received to be able to kill dangerous men. Season 6 must also explain what actually happened to Gus in Santiago.
The teaser video for Better Call Saul shows Gus’s painted smile turn sour as soon as he crosses the threshold of a house. This shows that the series will be focusing on Gus Fring’s personal story, which could include his love and family life. Long-standing fans have argued about whether Gus ever had a relationship with Max, a relationship which is now likely to be romantically confirmed in season 6. It is possible that Gus does have a wife and children, as he claimed previously. In Breaking Bad Gus says to Walter White (Bryan Cranston), “A man provides his family… Even if he isn’t appreciated or respected or even loved.” This indicates that his thinking process includes familial considerations. Better Call Saul season six will answer major questions about Breaking Bad’s greatest villain.
Many theories exist that explain Fring’s mysterious past. He isn’t just any drug lord. Don Eladio saved his life because: “I know who you are…you are not in Chile.” The most plausible theory is that Gus was connected with Augusto Pinochet, a dictatorial regime that ruled Chile from 1973 until 1990. Hector Salamanca once mentioned Gus as Great Generalissimo. One theory suggests Gus could be related to Nazi Germany. This would explain Gus’ German-sounding surname as well as his links to Chile. This isn’t the first time Nazis have been included in the show’s story. Others have speculated that Gus might have links to the CIA and secret police agency DINA. This background, aside from the teaser insinuations regarding Gus’ family, could be another mystery to be investigated. We’ll know for certain when the season airs; right now, it’s all taking shots on online slots.
Gus fled Chile to Mexico in 1986, the year Pinochet’s assassination attempt which killed five of his guards was unsuccessful. This cannot be a coincidence. Gus has not been seen since 1989, Mike Ehrmantraut confirmed it. This suggests that Gus had connections to a secret agency. It is also possible that Gus was involved in the events in Santiago. “Do you remember Santiago? Our backs to the wall,” Gus tells Madrigal’s Peter Schuler (Norbert Weiner). Gus’s time in Mexico, where he started his empire, was only possible because of past connections. Everything we know about Gus points out that revenge played a part in his backstory. This mystery will hopefully be resolved at the end of season 6. There are still many questions unanswered that the show cannot fully answer.
