Raw Poetic (aka Jason Moore) presents new single, “Open Roads,” from his forthcoming debut album, Laminated Skies, out March18th on Def Pressé. “Open Roads” follows last month’s “Sunny Water,” and reiterates Moore’s keen ability to craft hypnotic, thought-provoking, and deeply empowering hip-hop. “‘​​See I never see them elite,’ are the first lyrics on the song,” explains Moore. “My mother always said she never liked people who think they are better than her. And neither do I. So it was my way of telling everyone who hears it, we are all allowed to have a voice. I was creating an open road for me to travel. Sound like no one, be yourself, and do what you feel. And so the journey begins.” “Open Roads,” along with the rest of Laminated Skies, was produced by Moore alongside frequent collaborator Damu The Fudgemunk, with Damu offering a rich bed of instrumentation for Moore’s serene verses.

Following 2020’s Ocean Bridges, Moore’s highly praised collaborative effort with his uncle Archie Shepp and Damu The Fudgemunk, Laminated Skies is Raw Poetic’s sixth solo album and first official release for a label. Produced by Moore and Damu, Laminated Skies was recorded during the sweltering summer heat of 2019 at Windom Road Studio in Brentwood, Maryland and features guest musicians Pat “P” Fritz (Panacea, Archie Shepp) on guitar and Irreversible Entanglements’ Luke Stewart on bass. With Moore pulling musically from myriad genres, the multidimensional work draws inspiration from several sources, including spirituals and Ralph Ellison’s novel The Invisible Man. “I still can’t fully describe what kind of album this is so I’ve now reserved myself to telling people it’s a ‘Jason’ album,” says Moore. “I wanted to tell people what the hell is going on through my head sometimes; how I feel as a guy from Northern Virginia. Sometimes it’s invisible, other times invincible. Sometimes loved, sometimes hurt. Once we got started mixing and matching ideas, well… it became something that I am very proud of.”
