Hi Seth, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’ve been doing well thank you! Finally putting out my first single, very excited! It’s been a long time coming.
Can you talk to us more about your debut single “Bloom”?
This song was the first one I had written and recorded in a batch of songs that would eventually become the EP I am releasing. I wrote it at the start of the pandemic and ended up forgetting about it for a while. After going back and doing some mixes I quickly realized it was one of my favorite songs, and now it’s my debut single. Full circle!
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
No event in particular. The song is about new beginnings, whether that’s with a person or a place or just something new and exciting that’s happening in life.
How was the filming process and experience behind the music video?
It was so easy. I’m lucky to have some extremely talented friends at Dirty Shot Clean who make some incredible visuals. I’ve known these guys for years so putting the video together was nothing but fun. Really glad I was able to make it with friends… It looks amazing!
What was the recording and writing process for the single?
All of my songs start on the guitar. I wrote the entire song start to finish on my strat and once that was done, I individually recorded all of the instruments myself. The process of recording the song is a lot more time consuming when you’re alone but it’s nothing but joy putting it together. Mixed with a lot of trial and error.
How have 90s bands like Counting Crows, Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers influenced your writing?
These are just three of the bands that I have spent countless hours listening to. They have all had an effect on my writing in a different way. It’s hard to narrow it down, it’s a combination of everything they do that really makes me sound the way I do today.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes! I will be releasing a second single and then the whole 6 song EP.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
The second single “No Ends” will be released near the end of March and the EP titled “First Dose” will follow shortly after!
What else is happening next in Nice Vice’s world?
I am just about to get started on recording my first album! I plan to have that come out this summer and then start playing live shows wherever I can.
