Disney Plus Revives Fan-Favorite Classic “Goosebumps” for Upcoming Live-Action Series

In 1992, author R.L. Stine and Scholastic Publishing graced the literary world with Goosebumps, a crackling idea of following as its protagonist a youngster who finds him or herself embroiled in the world of the supernatural. In the course of five years, over sixty books in the Goosebumps series were churned out. Alongside the books was the 1995-’98 TV anthology series which mimicked the books in how their stories were told every week. When these two elements – TV and books – were combined, what resulted for many people was nothing less than a huge component of their childhood, an early primer for those that might not yet be ready for the joys of the 1930s-40s Universal monster pictures and such evergreens as The Twilight Zone and One Step Beyond. In short, Goosebumps was the access drug into the world of horror for an entire generation and it’s aged quite well indeed, thank you very much.

With nostalgia for pop culture at an all-time high, our friends over at Variety announced that or those of you who have been craving another dose of Goosebumps you’re very much in luck: Disney Plus has announced their intentions in bringing back the beloved show to their streaming service.

In the works since April of 2020, the Goosebumps revival has been given a ten episode order from the Big Wheels at Disney Plus. This iteration looks to have a bit more connectivity from one episode to the next in the form of a cadre of five high school friends who inadvertently let loose upon their town a nefarious supernatural force. Realizing that they must band together if they’re to successfully vanquish this dark cloud, the friends close ranks and in doing so gleam a lot of information on their own parents and their secrets and how it all connects back to the bad juju they’ve brought into the world.

If you’re a fan of Goosebumps, you can thank those delightful mensch’s Nick Stoller and Rob Letterman who are spearheading this new version as both writers and executive producers on this series. Just to add that extra-personal touch, Letterman will also be directing the very first episode of the new endeavor. Scholastic will also be in on this raising from the dead of the popular franchise, acting as one of the executive producers on the series.

Welcome back to the land of the living, Goosebumps! Now let’s party like its 1995!
