What To Binge This Weekend: ‘Review’

You know, Paramount+ may be the most-underrated of the streaming services. Or maybe I just feel that way because of my affinity for old Nickelodeon shows and Comedy Central shows and Daria and what have you. For example, you can watch the entire run of Review, the Comedy Central cult classic, on there. That’s my recommendation for this week.

Andy Daly is hilarious. It’s great on podcasts and funny in almost every role. Usually, though, he’s a tertiary character. With Review, Daly is the star. He plays Forrest McNeil, a man obsessively dedicated to reviewing life experiences. If somebody asks him to do something, he’ll do it, even if it’s getting a divorce or committing a crime. Forrest will destroy himself at the behest of his belief that his show matters.

It’s the perfect character for a performer like Daly. He can do bubbly nihilism with the best of them. Daly hits all the notes that Forrest needs to hit. The show can be absurd, pointed, dark, silly, you name it. Plus, even though it could work as just a series of unconnected episodes, a narrative builds up as Review goes on.

There isn’t any other show out there quite like Review, and Daly gives a truly stellar performance. If you enjoy fresh, out-there comedy, definitely try Review on Paramount+. I give it a million stars!
