“Scream” Creator Kevin Williamson Casts His Dark Net for New Peacock Series “Dead Day”

It doesn’t feel all that long ago that horror visionary Kevin Williamson was spinning his peculiar brand of black magic on the first two Scream flicks, or working his spooky charms on the tight script for I Know What You Did Last Summer. Artists grown and change, though, and the New Bern, North Carolina native flexed his creative gray matter on a little series called Dawson’s Creek and Glory Days. Those two series – particularly Dawson’s Creek – showcased a versatile writer with a lot more on his mind than simply horror. Fortunately the Time After Time scribe has managed to continuously find himself drawn back into the world of scares and chills like a modern-era Barton Fink, never too far away from that Wallace Beery wrestling picture. For an example, look no further than the news from our Cursed buddies over at The Hollywood Reporter who just announced that Williamson will be reuniting with his Vampire Diaries collaborator Julie Pec on an upcoming series for Peacock. The subject is horror, naturally…

Dead Day is the new Peacock series set to launch from longtime friends and collaborators Kevin Williamson and Julie Pec, who have previously banded together to create for the world of horror the popular series The Vampire Diaries. Billed as a supernatural drama, the new series is based off of the popular AfterShock comic book by author Ryan Parrot. It follows a group of characters as they attempt to maneuver about and around the annual “dead day” when, for a one-night command performance, the deceased rise from their graves to complete things that were left undone while they were alive.

In a joint statement announcing Dead Day, Williamson and Pec enthused that they had “been looking for a project to do together and Dead Day has all the ingredients we love as storytellers. Love, death, thrills and tears – and we know Susan Rovner and her team at Peacock is the perfect fit for this project.”

Dead Day was impressive enough to the Big Wheels at Peacock – whom word ‘round campfire says are in dire need of a breakout original hit series – that they handed the creative duo a straight to series order, a real rarity in any day and age.

“Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson are each a powerhouse unto themselves, so we couldn’t have been more excited when they told us they wanted to team up again,” Peacock Executive VP of Drama Development Vivian Cannon said in a press release. Dead Day will be everything Julie and Kevin’s audiences love about their work –emotional, unexpected and totally bingeable!”

No word on casting or a drop date as of yet, but expect to see Dead Day sometime in 2022 or early 2023!
