Make Sure You’re Not Overworking Yourself
One of the most important things you can do for your mental health is avoid overworking yourself. Some people might think that working long hours and being busy all the time means they are more productive or effective at their job, but in reality, it almost always hurts your mental health.
It’s not possible to get everything done every day, so don’t feel like if you’re not getting stuff finished, then something must be wrong with you – there will be other days ahead when new tasks come up! It would help if you had time each week to rest from work and take some downtime. Try going on a digital detox once a week where no screens are allowed (phones, laptops), and make sure to dedicate time during this period specifically for doing things that make you happy.
Keep A Routine – Even On The Weekends
When working for yourself, it can be easy to constantly change your routine and forget about the importance of having a set schedule each week. When you have no one else around to tell you what needs to get done, it’s all up to you! This is why putting routines in place are so important because they will allow time every day where work doesn’t need your attention, says Mitch Zelman.
Even if just an hour or two per day on weekends were dedicated specifically towards chores/housework/errands that must get done. This is enough minimalism at play with both task tracking apps and scheduling tasks into our days ahead of time (so we know they will get done). Just remember not to overdo it on the weekends so you can still enjoy your time off.
Take Care Of Your Physical Health
Another key way to take care of your mental health is by taking care of your physical health. When you’re feeling good physically, it usually has a positive impact on your mental state as well.
One way to ensure that you’re taking care of your body is by eating healthy foods and exercising regularly. This does not mean that you have to spend hours at the gym. Even just 30 minutes per day of exercise can make a big difference! Try incorporating some form of exercise into your routine, like going for a walk after dinner or taking up yoga.
Schedule Time For Yourself To Do Things That Make You Happy
It is incredibly important to schedule time for yourself each week where you don’t have to think about work and can relax! Think of it as your ‘me’ time, which might include things like going shopping with friends, watching TV, reading books/blogs – anything that brings you joy should be included here!
Mitch Zelman says, when planning this free day, make sure not to fill it with other activities because there will always be something else distracting us from getting the most out of our downtime. Be mindful of how much sleep you are getting each night, but also take naps when needed by limiting them to 30 minutes or an hour (anything more than this can interrupt our sleep patterns and make it harder to get back on track).
Practice Self-Care Through Meditation
There are many ways we can practice self-care to improve how we feel mentally and physically. There’s nothing wrong with using technology for this purpose too! Try downloading meditation/breathing apps that you can use when stressed out or anxious because they will help you focus on your breathing and calm down quickly. Another great way to ensure that you’re taking care of yourself is through journaling – write about what has been going on lately at work and include things like events from the past week and any exciting plans you have!
The most important thing to remember is that you’re not alone. Even if the business seems like it’s struggling, know that people can help and support you. Start with a friend or family member and work your way up to professional resources for them to be more understanding of what you’re going through. It’s okay if things don’t go as planned- mental health is just as vital as physical health when running a company!
