Few shows bolt out of the proverbial starting gate in the dynamo fashion that Apple+ fan-favorite The Morning Show did during its freshman season. Buoyed by a strong cast – Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell – and incredible word-of-mouth, this Jay Carson (The Front Runner) created drama about morning news anchors and the news they report on and occasionally make has been a 21st Century take on what exactly rests behind the curtain of early morning television. And even now that Carell’s character has made his sad exit, the series if anything has only gotten better during a strong second season.
Reported on today from our Network pals over at The Hollywood Reporter is an item that all fans of The Morning Show should greet warmly: Apple+ has officially given the green light for a third season of this stellar series. Hold on to your morning cup of Sanka, Ladies and Gents – It’s going to be a fun yet bumpy road methinks!
Along with the news about the renewal, it was also reported that The Morning Show will begin its third season with a new showrunner, the third one during its time on the airwaves.
Kerry Ehrin is out as showrunner and Charlotte Stoudt is officially in, taking over her predecessors duties for The Morning Show. Weep not however for Ms. Ehrin, as she will still serve as a consultant on the series while also working to develop new shows for Apple+.
In a statement, Stoudt said that she was “excited to be joining forces with Apple+ and The Morning Show.”
The Morning Show wrapped up its second season on November 19 after a ten episode story arc that tackled, among other things, loss, redemption, guilt and the dangers of bad driving. Not necessarily in that order.
In a press release announcing the renewal of The Morning Show along with the new services of Stoudt, Apple+ Big Wheel Matt Cherniss said that “It has been thrilling to watch The Morning Show go from strength to strength over the past two seasons, exploring topical storylines that have resonated with audiences around the world while also being incredibly addictive and entertaining. We’re excited to see where Charlotte takes these extraordinary characters in season three and to watch the magic of Jennifer, Reese and our awe-inspiring cast continue to bring to the captivating world of morning television.”
