Hi Jack, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I have been good , thank your for having me !

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Montreal”?

Well I started recording the track over a year ago with a few band mates in NYC, we spent a few days recording the instruments, then laid down the vocals . Looking back on it , it really was one of my favorite songs to write and record. Something felt too good , sitting in a small crammed apartment in NYC.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

That particular summer I was to say the least a wreck about a girl, and as soon as I got to nyc at the end of summer 2020, this was the first song we started working .

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

We had a video filmed , but we decided not to go through with it . I definitely have plans on releasing some sort of video with the track !

How was the recording and writing process?

Like I said , it was magical to be in NYC recording my own songs. It was early mornings , and late nights of writing lyrics and recording vocals . Which I saw as a way to forget about the things I was going through at the time .

The single comes off your new album numb – what’s the story behind the title?

Just the way I’ve been feeling lately , among most of the world in my opinion

What role does Rochester play in your music?

To be honest , the music scene in Rochester sucks , you can find 1000 people at the local Zac brown cover band concert, while down the street there’s 50 people at a really talented up and coming artists show . It really needs to be the other way around . Although many great bands like KOPPS, Joywave and Mayrbird hail from Rochester .

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

This upcoming album is definitely about my personal life weather it be girls or drugs . I think a lot of people my age will relate to it , and find that they feel the same way.

What else is happening next in Jack West’s world?

Besides the new music and Album coming out this spring , I’ve been working hard on planning for a spring and summer tour . Although this Febuary I’ll be in West Hollywood on 2/26 playing at the one and only Viper Room!

West’s new single “Montreal” will be dropping on January 28th
