2022 Is On Track to Bring Fans Even More of the Marvel Characters and Movies They Love

You can never have too much of a good thing, especially when it comes to the ongoing saga which is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since its modern day inception with 2008’s Iron Man, the MCU (as it’s known by those skinny-jean wearing hipsters that routinely serve you your double latte mocha at Starbucks, but whom you never see in an actual comic book shop. Ahem.) has gone on to bigger and better heights with a jaw-dropping amount of out of this world action and pathos: Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, The Avengers, The Eternals, Black Panther, Thor, Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings along with their various and sundry sequels have become such a mainstay at all of our local cinemas that it’s hard to recall a time when they weren’t at the top of the heap (Captain America II: Death Too Soon, anybody?). The good news if you’re a card-carrying member of the M.M.M.S. – The Merry Marvel Marching Society – you have oodles of new superhero flicks from the House of Ideas headed your way in the New Year. And speaking of which, let’s do a quick unpack to see exactly what we can look forward to for 2022 (with a tip of the old Irish hat to those lovable scalawags at Variety)!

On May 6, 2022 grab your magician’s top hat and get set for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness! Other worlds – multiverses – and dimensions have long been a familiar trope within comic books, and it looks as if both Marvel and DC movies are finally catching hep to the whole Earth-One/Earth-Two concept (a big tip of the hat to comic gurus Gardner Fox and Julie Schwartz for popularizing that concept). Expect to see the Good Doctor running into more superhero doppelgangers than you can shake an Anti-Monitor at! Hey, it’s never too late to lasso Reb Brown into the MCU…

Just a couple of months after Doctor Strange trips the light fantastic, look for Thor: Love and Thunder to put a smack down on movie-lovers, Asgard style! This one drops on July 8, 2022.

It’s hard to imagine a Black Panther sequel without the late and very missed thespian Chadwick Boseman along for the ride, but it’s what it is. On November 11, 2022 get set for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

On the television front in 2022, Marvel will debut Oscar Isaac in the role of Moon Knight. This one will be premiering on Disney Plus and will also feature Ethan Hawke.

She-Hulk gets some time to shine also at Disney Plus, with leading lady Tatiana Maslany going all green for fans. Expect major fan-service with appearances by Mark Ruffalo reprising his Banner role.

Ms. Marvel will try and get the teen audience with –what else – a teenage superhero in the form of actress Iman Vellani. This one debuts on Disney Plus, and yes, you are noticing a trend here.

And speaking of trends, Disney Plus may want to consider a name change to Marvel Age or some such; the streamer will debut The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special in late 2022. No word if it will be the stone cold classic that the late 1970s Star Wars Holiday Special is…

And there you have it you comic-book spinner rack mavens; all the Marvel goodies headed your way in 2022. A little something there for every taste and Vents will be here to report on these and more. Stay tuned and stay frosty, True Believers!
