Hi Scott, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hello VENTS, I’ve been good. Doing my best to stay safe and stay busy at the same time. So, most of my free time is spent in my home studio recording demos.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “(You Are) Everything”?
Sure, it was a song that was demoed with my song writing partner Steve Farrow about 10 years ago. While writing the songs to be on VIBES FOR MILES, I went back into the pile of demos to see if there were any songs that would fit in with the new material. This song just seemed to jump out at me so it was re-worked and added to the new album. It became the first single due to its universal message of finding the right one. Plus, it’s very catchy.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Well, Steve had just reunited with his high school sweetheart so there were a lot of good vibes going on at that time.
The single comes off your new album Vibes For Miles – what’s the story behind the title?
The title came from a comment made about my first album PEACE SIGNS AND DRAGONFLIES. My producer, PHIL MANN had played the album for another artist he was producing at the time to which she replied…..”This has VIBES FOR MILES” and that phrase just stuck with me. It fits perfect for my music and my way of life. On a funny side note, the artist doesn’t remember making the comment. LOL
This is your second album, following up on 2019’s debut Peace Signs and Dragonflies. How was the recording and writing process for this new album compared with your previous release?
My songwriting process still remains the same. The material on the debut album was taken from years and years of demos where as most of the material on VIBES was writing in a six month period. As far as the difference in the recording, PEACE SIGNS AND DRAGONFLIES has an acoustic guitar under current feel to it all where as VIBES FOR MILES has more of an electric guitar feel with a little more punch.
What role does CT play in your music?
Growing up in a small town in CT Is like growing up on a blank canvas. So, music is a great way to paint and add color to your world. I’ve always taken refuge in it.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
I look for inspiration everywhere. Anything that grabs my attention can be turned into a song. The best songs are the ones that speak to the experiences and emotions that belong to all of us so that’s where I’m focused. I’m cursed with one of those minds that never turns off. LOL
Who would you say are your biggest musical influences?
John Lennon and the Beatles. I always admired how the music also had something to say. Trying to change the world with music might sound very naive but it’s what inspires me. Music and communication are our best weapons for a better tomorrow. GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!
What else is happening next in Scott Waters’ world and where can fans find out more info about you?
I start sessions for the next album in January 2022. I will record the album at SILK CITY MUSIC FACTORY in Mansfield CT. and PHIL MANN will be at the helm producing once again. I feel as if we are just getting warmed up. This will be my third release and I think I’m finally getting good at it. LOL
