Actor Vince Vaughn likes to surround himself in good company on the screen. When you take a gander at the Minneapolis, Minnesota native’s impressive filmography, you’ll be quick to note that he’s worked with some mighty accomplished talent during his long career; from good friend Jon Favreau (Swingers), Sean Astin (Rudy), Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild), Owen Wilson (Wedding Crashers), Joaquin Phoenix (Clay Pigeons, Return to Paradise) and Julianne Moore (Psycho), Vaughn has worked with the best and brightest. Keeping that respectable record going, The Hollywood Reporter announced today that the versatile Made actor will next be plying his wares in a new Apple series with some very notable co-stars…
Apple’s Bad Monkey is an upcoming ten episode drama which is based off of the best-selling 2013 novel from author Carl Hiaasen. The story focuses on a former gumshoe called Andrew Yancy (Vaughn) who has seen his better days: Demoted to a lowly restaurant inspector in Southern Florida, things appear to be in an upswing professionally for the detective after a severed arm is hauled in by a tourist out fishing. The arm ultimately ensnares Yancy into a dark world of corruption. And before you ask, yes, there is an actual monkey that figures into Bad Monkey; truth in advertising, kiddies.
Announced today is a stellar ensemble which will more than provide ample backup for Vince Vaughn in Bad Monkey: Michelle Monaghan (Eagle Eye), Jodie-Turner Smith (Queen & Slim) and Meredith Hagner (My Christmas Love) have all been announced as jumping aboard the limited series.
According to the character summaries, Monaghan is set to essay the role of Bonnie, a woman in a bad romance with secrets a-plenty; Turner-Smith will play the delightfully named character Dragon Queen, a woman feared and respected in Southern Florida; Hagner meanwhile will tackle the role of Eve, a woman with a recently deceased hubby that’s questioned by Vaughn’s Yancy character.
Bad Monkey was picked up by Apple in a straight to series order this past August and boasting a creator credit from Ted Lasso wunderkind Bill Lawrence. Dexter and The Flight Attendant director Marcos Siega is slated to direct the pilot as well as executive produce.
Good to see a new and exciting project from the one and only Vince Vaughn and with a shining ensemble to sweeten the pot, Bad Monkey sounds anything but bad!
