Important things you need to know about Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that can be done to change the shape of the nose. This process has become really popular in the past few years because so many people are concerned with the shape of their noses. A sleek straight nose is considered a perfect nose by today’s beauty standards. During rhinoplasty, the rhinoplasty surgeon alters the upper portion of the nose bone, but the lower portion and skin can also be altered given what shape you desire. Besides the beauty reasons, people consider rhinoplasty for the following reasons.

  • People want to remove the hump from the nose bone and have a straight nose
  • Some want to reshape their nose’s tip
  • People want to decrease or increase the size of the nostrils
  • People want correction of the nose after an injury
  • People want to have wide opening breathing passages in the nose

Usually, when you meet with your doctor you would state your concern and then your surgeon will analyze your facial features, your skin on your nose and will develop a plan that would suit your face considering the alterations you want.

Here are some important questions that most people want to know before getting the rhinoplasty, so have a look at them.

Is rhinoplasty covered by insurance?

Well, sometimes rhinoplasty is covered by insurance but not fully. If you have a health-related issue, then it could fall in the category of medical emergency and some portion of it covered by insurance. But most cosmetic surgeries like face lift and rhinoplasty are not covered by insurance.

The difference between rhinoplasty and septoplasty

Yes, both are different but somehow interrelated.

Rhinoplasty is used to change the shape of your nose basically but since breathing is a major concern, you have to consider septoplasty in some cases. As for septoplasty, it is done to improve breathing in people by straightening the wall inside the nose that divides the nasal passages. When the nasal septum has widened, the shape of the nose is also changed. That’s why surgeons consider rhinoplasty to shape your nose. They are kind of interrelated in some cases but not always.

Is rhinoplasty an easy operation?

No. many people have this notion that rhinoplasty is just a normal operation but in reality, it is not an easy task. It is a challenging operation because it involves a person’s face and more importantly the breathing. Changes may be minor, but any alteration can lead to damage to the functionality of the nose. Also, one technique doesn’t fit all, everyone requires a customized plan from the surgeon based on his/her own features. For best results, consult with Dr. K.Zakhary, rhinoplasty surgeon for the best treatment plan.

How long will I need to stay in the hospital?

After the successful rhinoplasty, a person can leave within a few hours. If there is any complication that causes nausea or any other concern, then you might have to stay overnight but not more than that.

How long is the recovery period?

Normally, you should take at least a week from your work. Your nose will swell up a little and may need more than two weeks to be fully recovered. Recovery will start from the very next day but it’s better to fully recover from it to avoid any problems. By the end of the week, you will feel better, and your nose will function properly.
