From NFT To Metaverse THEN VS NOW

In the year 2012 an idea emerged, “Colored Coin“. Colored Coins can be as small as the smallest unit of a bitcoin, a satoshi.

The emergence of such an idea, opened a door to a whole new world of possibilities for blockchain developers as it meant that now,  real-world assets can be represented on the blockchain with concrete proof of ownership.

In 2014 Robert Dermody, Adam Krellenstein, and Evan Wagner took it a step further and founded “Counterparty” on the Bitcoin blockchain. Counterparty is an open-source Internet protocol. It is a peer-to-peer financial platform distributed technology that allows Counterparty nodes to communicate with each other via the Bitcoin blockchain.

Counterparty grabbed the attention of many creative minds, which in turn gave birth to some interesting NFTs. However, the true potential of this fascinating technology was yet to be realized.

Years passed and came June 2017, the year the most successful NFT project to date, “CryptoPunks” was developed by Matt Hall and John Watkinson, founders of Larva Labs.

“CryptoPunks are pixelated avatars randomly generated through computer code stored on the Ethereum blockchain; only 10,000 punks exist and no two are the same, though some are considered more rare than others.”

After the massive growth of CryptoPunks alongside the explosion of a number of other incredibly successful NFTs within the NFT ecosystem, even bigger ideas emerged.

METAVERSE

In simple words, metaverse, short for meta universe, refers to ‘the internet’ rendered in 3D, or in other words brought to life.

To better understand and digest this neologism, one must travel back in time.

In 1992 Neal Stephenson, an American science-fiction writer, coined the term “metaverse” in his novel “Snow Crash“.

Snow Crash entertains a narrative of a three-dimensional virtual world, where humans can interact with each other and software agents, as avatars. For many, the metaverse was just another sci-fi concept, however there have always been individuals who see the possibilities within the impossibilities!

Although CryptoPunks and a number of other NFT collections saw massive growths in the NFT ecosystem, they all lack one major attribute which basically disqualified them from taking part in the metaverse tournament. They all live on a two-dimensional plane, and that alone contradicts the very foundation of a metaverse, a three-dimensional virtual world.

Now, that doesn’t mean the idea of developing 3D NFTs never crossed anyone’s mind, it did and many 3D NFTs emerged. However even then, only few saw the bigger picture, the tremendous potential hidden within the blockchain.

Well then, let’s now get back to the future where metaverse met NFT on the blockchain.

In 2015 Decentraland, a decentralized 3D virtual reality platform which uses the Ethereum blockchain, began their metaverse development. In 2017 they launched a digital real-estate selling virtual lands, using their native token, “MANA“, for as little as $20. Today those same land parcels sell for as high as $100,000 and even more.

Decentraland wasn’t the only platform that took an interest in the once known as “just a sci-fi term” metaverse. There have been many others that have made significant progress and had tremendous success with the development of their own metaverse.

This year, 2021 has so far been an exciting year for all metaverse lovers. Many different companies, social platforms, and blockchain development teams have made numerous announcements in regards to their plans for the metaverse world.

For instance, on October 28th 2021, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of the social media platform “Facebook“, announced the name of the company is now changed to, “Meta“. This radical decision was made purely due to the company’s significant progress in the development of their metaverse.

In November 2021, the blockchain development team, “HydraCo Labs“, made another exciting announcement for the metaverse community. The team announced the launch of a 3D NFT collection with the name of “HydraCo“, which holders will then be able to import into the metaverse currently being developed by the team on the Ethereum blockchain, with the name of “HydraVerse“.

According to HydraCo’s roadmap and other information available on their website https://hydraco.co , similar to Decentraland, users of HydraVerse will be able to explore, trade and create virtual real-estate, as well as other goods and services within the metaverse using their native token, “HOVER“. HydraCo also claims that users within HydraVerse, “will find it extremely difficult to distinguish between virtual and reality”. This gives us the impression that they plan on incorporating highly advanced technologies in the development of HydraVerse.

With the emergence of such projects dedicated to the metaverse, the advancements of the Artificial Intelligence industry and technology in general, the idea of a virtual world where even non-playable characters have a consciousness and even feel emotions, is not so far-fetched.

This concept was beautifully illustrated in the anime series, Sword Art Online: Alicization. To many of us, it’s a big deal knowing that we have a decent chance of experiencing such a magical world in our lifetime.

SpecTrue offers a metaverse website that with the help ofartificial intelligence analyzes data captured during the user’s immersive website experience to assist with social networking, education, life skills, income generation, dating, therapeutic treatments and an array of other crucial subjects. With personalized landing pages that include tabs for a built-in messenger, community page, library and sponsored games to earn tokens, our multiple dimensional digital universe offers unfettered access to a treasure trove of helpful content that is beneficial to the user and his community at-large.

What do YOU think? How do you feel about the metaverse? Is the human race ready for such technology or are we going too fast? Will it take us to the next stage of human evolution?!
