It’s time to tackle the next season of Seinfeld in my episode rankings. I’ve now reached the sixth season. The fourth season was strong, the fifth was a slight step down, and now we reach the sixth year of the show. Where will it land? Several of my all-time favorite episodes have already shown up, but will any pop up in season six? I know some more await me. Let’s get to the rankings!
23. “The Highlights of 100”
22. “The Beard”
21. “The Couch”
20. “The Gymnast”
19. “The Scofflaw”
18. “The Doorman”
17. “The Chinese Woman”
16. “The Chaperone”
15. “The Label Maker”
14. “The Secretary”
13. “The Mom & Pop Store”
12. “The Kiss Hello”
11. “The Doodle”
10. “The Pledge Drive”
9. “The Race”
8. “The Soup”
7. “The Understudy”
6. “The Jimmy”
5. “The Diplomat’s Club”
4. “The Face Painter”
3. “The Big Salad”
2. “The Fusilli Jerry”
1. “The Switch”
Well, picking the episode to put last was easy. It’s a clip show, after all. After that, this is a high-ceiling season. None of these episodes are even mediocre. They are all at least pretty good, and most of them are good or really good. I could watch this season on a binge happily. There are no dead spots.
On the other hand, there isn’t a super-high point either. “The Switch” and “The Fusilli Jerry” are both great episodes, but I don’t think either of them are in my top 10. Still, the top handful of episodes are quite funny, if not iconic. That’s not something you would say about a lot of shows, but it is what you say when discussing a show as beloved and famous as Seinfeld.
This is maybe the best season so far, give or take season four. That’s an interesting discussion, perhaps one to be had another time.
