Every once and awhile an actress will come along that can literally play anything. Angelina Jolie, Kate Beckinsale, Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan, Kate Winslet and Kristen Stewart instantly come to mind as being part and parcel of some of the best working actors currently on the Hollywood scene; and, of course, the actress whose name is on the marquee of this very article, Gal Gadot. In roles as rich and diverse as Wonder Woman, Between Two Ferns and upcoming roles in Death on the Nile and an untitled Hedy Lamarr biopic, Gadot has more than proven her credentials. Now, according to our Red Notice fans over at The Hollywood Reporter, the talented thespian is gearing up to play perhaps her most intriguing role to date: The Evil Queen in a Disney live-action remake of their classic film Snow White (sans the Seven Dwarves from the title, alas).
Set to be directed by Marc Webb of The Amazing Spider-Man and 500 Days of Summer fame, this new take on Disney’s classic animated film will step out of the land of 2-D to bring audiences a live-action extravaganza guaranteed to make you at least momentarily forget about that pesky 1938 offering from The House That Uncle Walt Built.
For those that might have been hiding out in a literal cave in the English countryside, Snow White is derived from a Grimm fairy tale about an unwitting princess living in squalor with her evil stepmother. Said stepmother also happens to be a very vain queen, indeed and sees no place for Snow White going forward and orders her assassination. Escaping that cruel fate, Snow White lands in with a motley crew of Seven Dwarves before claiming her rightful place in the hierarchy, vanquishing the Evil Queen once and for all.
Classic stuff and part and parcel of many childhood memories: In this live-action remake, the Evil Queen will be tackled by Gal Gadot, while Snow White will be essayed by Rachel Zegler.
Sweetening the proverbial pot, this new iteration of Snow White will feature the musical talents of Oscar-winning duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The talented twosome who captured our hearts with their music for La La Land will be crafting up original tunes meant solely for this project.
No word on a production start date for Snow White (let alone a theatrical release date), but you can bet all Seven Dwarfs on Vents being the place you need to keep your eyes glued to for any and all updates!
