Keshav Maharaj Described The Difficulties Players Face In Bio Bubble

With the pandemic still ravaging across the world, participating teams in this year’s World Cup T20 have to abide by special regulations. The bio-bubble before any tournament is one of such restrictions that players have to mandatorily maintain.

What is the bio-bubble?

The bio-bubble is the new normal mode of quarantine that is not just restricted to the field or the pitch. Herein, the players have to remain in their hotel rooms and only dine or lounge at specific points designated for them. Even housekeeping services are not made available as part of this new quarantine method.

Continuously living within the bio-bubble might not impact their performance on the field, but it does take a toll on their mental wellbeing, as Betway experts observe. In fact, some players, like South African cricketer Keshav Maharaj, have already expressed their concerns about living in the bio-bubble and how it is starting to take its toll on them.

What had Keshav Maharaj said about being in the bio-bubble?

Keshav Maharaj, the South African spinner has voiced his concerns regarding life in the bio-bubble period before the T20 World Cup 2021 began. He has said that this model of quarantining is “not ideal” as far as its impact on their mind is concerned. However, he also added that this restrictive setup has been fulfilling its purpose, at a time when the world is battling to work around unusual circumstances due to the pandemic. So it cannot really be helped, and that he has accepted it.

Maharaj has said how the conditions now are entirely different from how it was, and he has been trying very hard to adjust to this new normal. A fan of cleanliness and neatness, he said that now that no cleaners are allowed into their hotel rooms (during the bio-bubble), he has been making sure that the room stays tidy and clean. He staunchly dislikes scrunched-up bed sheets and untidy rooms, so he does the cleaning-up parts to feel more at home.

They have designated bio-secure spaces where the team can get together for dinner, have coffee, or watch television. He said that watching a match of South African rugby along with his teammates, was a great way to relax and feel more normal amidst the bio-bubble period. He said that is how he felt connected to his home.

Concerns and facilities on offer

Interestingly, Keshav Maharaj is not the only player who has voiced concerns about his mental health while going through the bio-secure restrictions. However, they have all agreed that in spite of the bio-bubble, the hospitality and care being offered to them are exceptional. They have access to amenities like a gym-come-team-come-medical room on the ground floor of the hotel where the team gathers for fitness; keeping fit is critical to their performance. They have a grand living room with a huge TV that serves them entertainment for most of the time as they keep to their rooms.
