No, this is not about the 1989 Kiefer Sutherland and Lou Diamond Phillips one-two punch entitled Renegades, nor is it meant to be about the 2017 Steven Quale-directed flick Renegades (known in the U.S. as American Renegades). Nope, what we have here Dear and Constant Reader is an entirely separate and way hipper Renegades that features the acting services of the legendary Lee Majors (The Fall Guy and The Bionic Man himself), Nick Moran (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) and badass with a heart of gold Danny Trejo (Heat, From Dusk ‘Til Dawn). And, lucky crew that this band of Renegades is, this Shogun Films action bonanza has just secured the representation of renowned international sales agency Bleiberg Entertainment, according to our always on point compadres over at Variety.
Renegades is about four veteran Green Berets who unite to avenge the murder of one of their own by an Albanian drug cartel, unleashing their own special form of law and order on the merry old streets of London, England. Did I mention that the film features Lee Majors? If Majors and his muchachos don’t quite do it for you, dig this supporting cast which is made up of some of the best and oft-times most underrated thespians in the entertainment industry: Michael Pare, Patsy Kensit, Billy Murray, Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott, Paul Barber, Stephanie Beacham and, in one of his final performances, the incomparable Tommy ‘Tiny’ Lister of The Fifth Element fame.
The Daniel Zirilli directed film received a boost with the rep from Bleiberg, and this intrepid sales agency will officially unveil it to potential buyers exclusively at the November 1-5 online American Film Market.
Producer Jonathan Sothcott said in a press release that “Our USP is making better films in this space because we value and love the genre and Daniel Zirilli is a key part of this – he’s a very talented, film-literate director and he knows his way around this market as well as any filmmaker – and like me he really cares about the material.”
Not to be outdone with accolades, Renegades Man of the Hour Zirilli issued his own statement about the impending release of his action-lovin’ homage: “Directing this incredible ensemble cast in the streets of London was a dream come true. I’ve made many action films, but the level of acting talent, story and beautiful locations, puts Renegades on the next level for me.”
