How To Use Peep Sights With Your Rifle: Essential Guide

1.   SELECT THE RIGHT SIZE PEEP SIGHT

  • Medium- .070”

While aiming, if you reduce the aperture’s size, you minimize your edge of error. You can compare using different aperture sizes. It gives you a small view of the field, you can concentrate on your target easily.

But even other apertures have their own benefits such as when a large aperture is used it gives a bigger and better view of the field.

2. INSTALL YOUR PEEP SIGHT

Attach peep sight to the gun

If you are installing for the first time, keep patience as the process may take some time. It may happen that the sight may not line up with the rifle trajectory. But you will have to steer the sight so that your center and the sight line up.

While installing make sure you keep the peep sight parallel to the axis of the gun barrel and screw the tripods tightly. Once you have everything installed at the right place, adjusting peep-sights becomes quite easy especially if the peep sight has numerous adjustable settings.  

Bullet holes on the target

Then comes your sight alignment. It is advisable to use shooting rest, this locks the gun into the place. Then turn the zoom adjusting knob to the minimum zoom size. You will be able to spot bullet holes on the target, adjust your sight and fire accordingly.

  • U (for Up): this adjusting knob is used to move up and down
  • L (for Left): this fixing knob is used to move to the left and right.

Once you are done with sight alignment, you can take off the rifle of the mount and solitarily fire.

3.   HOW TO USE A PEEP SIGHT

Peep sights magnify notch-and-post open sights by reinforcing eyes to see the front sight in accordance with the target.

All you have to do is keep your face close to the rear sight peephole to have a clear field of view and accuracy. Getting close to the peephole helps you focus on what is in front of you and for better precision shots. Though, it all depends on what your objective is whether it is big or small and accordingly you need to adjust your precision.

For better alignment, you may need to make some adjustments by moving one or two notches at a time. Once everything is placed, the end sight centered with the peep sight, just pull the rifle trigger.
