You know that you’re doing something right when, prior to showing up for a new shift at work, your boss hands you a nice, fat raise, all based off of the past work you’ve provided for the company. If nothing else, that type of confidence has to add some nice zing to that lunchtime peanut butter and jelly sandwich your Better Half packed up for you this morning. Such has been the work week that the production crew of Netflix series You has experienced with the news that the steaming behemoth has, ahead of the season 3 premiere, renewed the smash series for a fourth season, according to our pop culture brethren over at Variety.
For those not in the know, You is a psychological thriller based off of the works of author Caroline Kepnes about bookstore manager Joe Goldberg (essayed by the brilliant actor Penn Badgley) who becomes obsessed with an aspiring writer named Guinevere Beck, and not in a cute Lloyd Dobler/Say Anything sort of way. Y’see Ladies and Gents, Joe is a serial killer and Heaven help anyone that might get in the way of him and the latest object of his affections. This taut series has been sculpted and shaped, in part, by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble.
For those of our reading audience not already watching You, you’re missing one of the more clever and suspenseful ongoing series out there at the moment; one part Dexter and the other half The Talented Mister Ripley, this is one delightfully dark cocktail.
Gamble reacted to the early renewal in a press release, saying that “Reading Caroline’s novel, Greg and I were instantly obsessed with Joe Goldberg and his twisted world view. And it’s been thrilling to watch Penn bring Joe to creepy yet compelling life. We’re deeply grateful that Netflix has shown You such monumental support, and that people around the world have enjoyed watching Joe really get it all very wrong over the past three seasons. The whole You team is excited to explore new, dark facets of love in season four.”
Season Three of You is set to premiere on Netflix this October 15, with no production date as of yet announced for the fourth season. Keep your eyes and ears peeled to Vents for any and all updates on You!
