It’s a good time to be actor Omar Sy: The breakout French star of the surprise hit series Lupin has been riding a wave of good press and weighing exactly which projects to follow-up the Louis Leterrier/Marcela Said crime thriller with. It’s an important time for the thespian. Make the right move and you’re marching down the Oscar red carpet with Isaac Mizrahi pestering you for a selfie. One little misstep, however, and suddenly you’re listed on the under-bill of Corey Feldman’s Dream a Little Dream 3; I joke because anything in Hollyweird is possible, Dear and Constant Reader.
News from the Front (i.e. our good pals over at Variety) has it that Omar Sy might want to look into a tuxedo rental for a stroll down the walkway at the Dolby Theatre: The Jurassic World star has just inked a lucrative multi-year feature film deal with streaming platform Netflix, marking the very first deal that the company has struck with a French actor or filmmaker.
In a press release announcing the deal, Sy explained that he had “experienced Netflix’s collaboration with artists and their passion to bring unique and diverse stories to homes all over the world.” He added that he was “happy to have the opportunity to extend the relationship and look forward to this next step of our journey together.”
As a part of the new deal with Netflix, Sy will work with the streamer through his Paris and Los Angeles-located production shingle to bring to life brand new films. Plans are to have Sy acting in and serving as an executive producer on most if not all of these upcoming projects.
Director of International Original Film for Netflix Gaelle Mareschi said in a statement that the streamer was “excited to now expand our partnership further to bring his creative vision to our global audiences…We look forward to working together with Omar and his team as he grows as a producer and brings more unique stories and voices to Netflix.”
Next up for Sy in the Netflix realm is a reunion with Lupin’s Leterrier on an action-comedy movie entitled Tour de Force which will co-star Laurent Lafitte. Expect to see this one drop on Netflix sometime in 2022.
Omar Sy is a brilliant actor and Vents look forward to see what the ongoing collaboration between him and Netflix will look like.
