Currently completing her long awaited debut album, Ariel Hill has released four singles so far in 2021. Fans have reacted in droves, with tracks like “Honeycomb” and “Dream in Peace” earning tens of thousands of spins across multiple streaming platforms. Her latest single and it’s accompanying video are poised to blow the project wide open. “Made Up” is the brand new video from Ariel Hill, released worldwide on October 6, 2021.
The short film is set in a Salvador Dali inspired dream scene. Ariel Hill navigates the surreal landscape of her own fantasy world as she sings of her new obsession with a man who she does not know, or may not exist at all. The blonde beauty portrays both herself and the object of her affection in the subdued yet suggestively sexy video.
Ariel sings in smoky tones as she addresses the unnamed love interest who ‘never calls.’ As the track progresses, a downtempo organic groove forms. Acoustic drums, ambient synths and an ethereal mix of guitars and backing vocal harmonies create a laid back Trip-hop mood. It is the perfect soundtrack to this cerebral visualization of transitory reality. At the end of the film we find Ariel Hill awake, wandering through a field of dandelions as she sings softly to herself. It is a beautiful image. The accompanying lo-fi audio was recorded by the singer on her cell phone.
“You can even hear my piano bench creaking if you listen closely. I was a bit jaded and disillusioned at the time. I sat down, pressed record and just sang ‘show me a love that will last,’ over and over.” – Ariel Hill
