“This Is Us” Star Sterling K. Brown Tapped to Lead New Hulu Series “Washington Black”

With ratings behemoth This Is Us set to end at the conclusion of its sixth season, one might ask where some of the top-notch actors associated with the series will land next. The landscape is after all pretty wide-open in both boob tube and silver screen choices. Part of the magic of Dan Fogelman’s cast for this accomplished drama resides in the insanely gifted thespian Sterling K. Brown who, according to our well-coifed brethren over at The Hollywood Reporter, is jumping from the end of one series into the very beginning of another (all of this while maintaining an active film presence with the upcoming movies Biosphere and Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul).

Actor Sterling K. Brown has been chosen to lead the upcoming Hulu series Washington Black. The series, which is adapted by scribe Selwyn Seyfu Hinds from the best-selling novel by author Esi Edugyan, is about an eleven year old by the name of George Washington “Wash” Black. The young African American youth is coming of age during the 19th Century at a Barbados sugar plantation. If that doesn’t sound fraught enough for you, dig this: Wash and his world are thrown into turmoil after a shocking death forces him to flee from the plantation and out into a very large world where adventure and even love awaits him.

Man of the Hour Brown will essay the role of Medwin Harris, the so-called de facto Mayor of Black Halifax who makes a point of putting his community’s needs over that of a young and impressionable Washington Black, his protégé.

In a press release announcing Washington Black, Head of Scripted Development at Hulu Jordan Helman said that “What Selwyn, Sterling and their inspired team of collaborators have crafted is a deeply romantic, globe-trotting adventure that is highly entertaining and unlike anything else on television. It is a remarkable tale of hope, wonder and perseverance, and we are honored to have the opportunity to work with such incredible storytellers to bring this series to the screen.”

And what of leading man Sterling K. Brown? What say he on his new television endeavor, you might ask: Washington Black inspires me. This young man and the adventure he undertakes remind me of how the power of imagination and the creativity of artistry can transform the world in which we live.”

Washington Black will air on Hulu sometime in 2022. Keep your peepers peeled to Vents for any and all updates on what looks to be an exciting and intriguing series!
