Hakeem Rowe Is Shaping The Music Industry On His Own Terms

“I put the world on to new artists and music. People are constantly surprised when people find out what I know or like. I’m aware of a lot of things within music and the music industry.”

Hakeem Rowe is a media host based in Los Angeles, California. He can be described as a tastemaker who has a dope taste in music. From his interviews with some of the most talented artists in the underground hip-hop community, to his overall Instagram aesthetic, Rowe is someone that’s paving his own lane in the music industry.

He was born in Clarendon, Jamaica and at the age of 9 moved to New Jersey. At 20 years old, he bought a one-way ticket to California with only $200 to pursue his dreams of creating music, but life took an unexpected turn when he started working at a hat store.

It was then where he met Adam 22 from No Jumper, and was invited to be a media host on the platform. After three years, he left No Jumper and now, he’s the host of media company Our Generation Music (OGM), which highlights upcoming artists largely from the hip-hop and underground music world. Many of his interviews have gone viral on social media, and Hakeem has been at the forefront of the OGM show, hosting memorable moments with artists such as Lil Got It, SoFaygo, Mario Judah, and Lancey Foux – all of whom have seen notable attention and have experienced an exponential growth in their careers.

Hakeem’s outgoing and engaging personality is on full display throughout every episode, and it’s clear that he has his own notability. Audiences not only watch for the interview, but for Hakeem, who’s consistent and good at pulling out the most unique answers out of artists. As far as hobbies outside of music, Hakeem finds ways to stay creative and busy.

“I produce beats, I’ve been making beats for about 2 years now,” he said. “I’ve been skateboarding for half of my life and I also like to play basketball. I used to play football in high school and I was an all-state linebacker.”

His goal in the future is to become a music mogul, someone who changes the industry from within.
