INTERVIEW: Jodie Weston

Hi Jodie, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been ok thank you so glad we can get out and about again I feel like I’ve gone back in time to pre covid times

Can you talk to us more about your new single?

My new song is an uplifting feel good track  with some amazing vocals by an amazing upcoming singer from Sheffield called Charlotte Branson

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I wanted to make a song that is both feel good and timeless, it’s a reworking of a classic tune with some more modern house vibes

How was the recording and writing process?

This won’t sound the most glamorous way of working but we definitely used a lot of voice notes to try out different ideas and sent them back and forth between myself, Charlotte and jampact recordings which is another producer I work with

You’re a Londoner – what role does this play in your music?

I am a Londoner but I was born in Manchester, raised in the Midlands and spent the past 10 years in London, so I’m from all different parts of the Uk. my music reflects this by being both varied and appealing to different audiences

Where else do you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics? Are there any musicians who particularly inspire you?

I love house artists like Nora en pure, mk, hot since 82 and sonny fodera, I think they’ve all done amazing things for the house genre over the last 10 years.

When I was younger I’d write a lot of deep lyrics but I find that with more commercial tracks the simpler the lyrics the better because then they are super catchy and easy to remember, and my new song has a more mainstream pop-house vibe

What are you listening to at the moment? How did you find the pandemic? What are you most looking forward to?

I’ve recently been listening to Jhene Aiko, H.E.R, DVSN, and then house artists like massane, Martin ikin, Gorgon City

As live events gear up, where are you looking forward to playing?

I am so excited to play at ministry of sound on 10 September, I’ve got an epic melodic/progressive house set planned and I know the vibes will be extra large
