July Jones Returns With New Single ‘Aladdin’

Rising music star July Jones today releases her new single ‘Aladdin’, a spiky trap banger inspired by infidelity.
The worst thing about betrayal is that it never comes from enemies,” July sings bluntly. “I think that you get off on the feeling of causing me pain.”

The track is a searingly honest and supremely relatable song that recently became a TikTok sensation after July posted a teaser.

July says: “Aladdin is one of the most personal “on the nose” songs I’ve ever written. I’m usually quite private about my life, but this one just poured out of me. I was in a situation in my relationship where I felt like with how I dressed, how I portray myself in society was too much for my partner, so they pushed boundaries themselves. They went on to giving another person attention, which triggered me, so I went to the studio the next day and this landed on paper. The night before I watched Aladdin with a bunch of my friends, and while watching it I wrote down in my notes: “did you like playing Aladdin in your silly little dream, so concerned about the princess you forgot about the queen, fuck your Jasmine and your carpet cuz to me its so obscene, what you crave is just attention, it’s all emptiness to me”
I wanted to incorporate the story of Aladdin,  which imagery portrays this fairytale couple flying on a carpet, I came to the studio with this image in my head and that’s where the whole song started.  To not name people I chose the name Jasmine, which correlated so well with the title Aladdin. I uploaded the process of us writing it the next day on Tiktok and it blew up overnight which was nuts.”

Jones is an artist with an instantly distinctive look and a unique point of view. Her edgy electro-pop songs combine razor-sharp hooks with forward-thinking production choices and filter-free lyrics about relationships, queerness and mental health. “I’m queer and my partner is transgender, so for me it’s very important to speak about being LGBTQ,” she says. “I want my fans to know there’s a voice for them and not every song has to be about fucking and ‘bitches’ and alcohol, though it’s great to sing about that too sometimes.”
