1.     Can you describe what you do for a living?

Well to sum it up, I tell stories.  As a director, writer, and choreographer, I tell stories.  I love doing any and all mediums, from stage to screen…but my true love really is film making.  I love being behind that camera and bringing things to life.

2.     How did you start your career?

Well, I started dancing at the age of 12.  Starting my career? Hmm…well I wouldn’t be anywhere in my career if I didn’t meet people song the way.  So the people I met along the way really helped me start my career.  That is why I always tell young people to be kind, and say hello to people…get out there and meet people.  Network with kindness.   Maybe one day, you can help eachother.

3.     We have seen some amazing work of yours. What skills did you          develop as a dancer to become a good choreographer?

The discipline I developed as a dancer made me such a hard worker.  I don’t believe that every great dancer is a good choreographer.  Being a dancer basically helped me be aware of physical relationships, shapes and understanding the body.

4.     Before preparing a dance routine, what do you need to establish?

I need to establish a story and a reason.  Without a reason, it is just a bunch of dance steps that leaves the audience with absolutely nothing.  I know because early on, I did that lol.

5.     Can you explain to us how you choreograph a dance routine?

The first thing I do is establish what the story and relationships are.  What is the reason?  Once I have that, I put it on its feet as a scene.  No steps.  Then I play the music and explore.  Then I explore how I am going to shoot it….Then I build the steps last.  I work backwards.  I’m weird, but it works for me.

6.     About your work, what do you like the most?

The thing I like about my work the most is that I have the ability to make people happy and change their life through my work.  In addition, I get to give people opportunities, which is always nice.

7.     One thing you don’t like about your work?

I don’t like all of the administrative work that comes with it.  I would rather be creative only.

8.     What is the most challenging thing about choreography?

The most challenging thing about choreography is the transitions.  Transitional moments are always the most difficult thing in all art forms…from painting, to singing.

9.     What are your upcoming projects?

I currently just wrapped “Ivy and Bean” for Netflix, “Honey Girls” for Sony, and am currently filming “The Last Of Us” for HBO.

10.   Would you like to share anything else about yourself/your career?

I have had a great career so far, and I am just getting started.  I would love to help as many people as I can along the way, and give back as much as I can.  I had great people in my life who helped me, and I would like to continue to be that for as many deserving individuals as I can.
