Vents Magazine sat down with the songstress to talk about her latest single release, ‘Carry On’ Feat. Young Miller Tha Don is out on all platforms.
Vents: Your single, Carry On and its music video just released. Can you explain the backstory of this song?
I was inspired to write my song ‘Carry On’ to remind me that no matter how many obstacles I’ve faced in my life, and what the future holds for me, I have to be determined to “carry on.” There are many people in my line of business that are positive, but many people can be negative and hateful. It is very hard to carry on when you feel like you’re being picked apart from people who are either jealous, want what you have, or do not understand you. Another aspect of ‘Carry On’, is about relationships. When it comes down to it, relationships with family, friends, partners, or lovers, are the most difficult encounters you can face in life. ‘Carry On’ shows the audience that sometimes people just don’t vibe and will go in different directions; “You go this way I go that way.”
Vents: The song has a featured rapper, Young Miller Tha Don. How did that relationship come about?
Young Miller and I were introduced by my producer Gemini Muziq who produced the song Carry On. They had worked together on another project, and when Young Miller heard my music, he loved it and wanted to be the featured artist. It worked out great.
Vents: Can you tell us a bit about the making of the song and its process?
The making of the song started with J Lauryn and I sitting down in a studio together and writing ‘Carry On’. J Lauryn is an incredible song writer who is known for her writing on the song ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding’ by Post Malone. After that, Gemini, my producer, and I went to work in the studio and were relentless on the music and production; I am a perfectionist and won’t sleep until I feel the song is perfect. Then I had the privilege of meeting Young Miller Tha Don who is a great rapper who wanted to sing on my song.
Vents: What were your favorite parts about making the music video?
My favorite part about making the music video are my outfit changes and amazing hair and makeup but also my first time ever having back up dancers! It really tied in the whole video, and I am happy with the results.
Vents: What’s up next for you?
What’s next for me is to continue promoting my songs, music videos and new EP coming out, as well as getting on the radio and of course performing live again for the world to see!
