Netflix Renews “Never Have I Ever” for a Third Season

In news that’s bound to make Kelly Kapoor fans happy, The Hollywood Reporter announced today that Netflix had renewed the fan-favorite series Never Have I Ever which was co-created by former The Office star Mindy Kaling and her uber-talented partner in crime, Lang Fisher.

For those unfortunate few not in the know, Never Have I Ever focuses on the trials and travails of teenager Devi Vishwakumar (played to pitch-note perfection by talented actress Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) who, as the series begins, is dealing with the loss of her father. As it has evolved, it’s become a real romantic number, too, featuring a love triangle between Devi and the objects of her affection, Ben and Paxton (talented young actors Jaren Lewiston and Darren Barnet). The show is extremely personal to Kaling, who has based the series on her own experiences of surviving adolescence. Believe it or don’t, the series is inescapably funny and sweet and has endeared itself to a whole host of discerning fans over the last two seasons. This renewal is timely, coming a mere one month after season two of the show dropped on Netflix.

In a joint press release, Kaling and Fisher said that “We are so grateful to Netflix and Universal Television for letting us continue to tell this story, and to the fans around the world who clamored to see more of this badly behaved Indian teenager.”

So where will the third season of Never Have I Ever head to? Series co-creator Fisher gave some candid insights recently, saying that she didn’t know exactly how long the series might ultimately run for, but that she was “happy to work on it as long as they’ll pay me. I love making it. I do think (Devi’s) got very different relationships with these two guys and you could see her going in either direction. So much of it depends on what the rest of the stories are that we want to tell. With teen shows, everyone is 45 and you have to graduate from high school. I do think the love triangle will be significant for the run of the show.”

Further details have yet to be revealed concerning the upcoming third season (i.e. no official word on a release date or episode count for the new season), but stay tuned to Vents for any and all updates on Never Have I Ever!
