Neutral Snap is an up-and-coming 4-piece pop-punk band from New Orleans. The fusion of music styles & songwriting influences belonging to Joshua Latham (vocals), J.P Brown (guitar), Dominick Conforte (bass), & Ray-Ray Boudreaux (drums) is on full display at all times. On October 22, the band will release their sophomore album Tell Me How I Feel, featuring the lead single “I’m Crazy (But You) Like That”.
Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
We’ve been good! Really excited to start releasing music and touring again.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “I’m Crazy (But You) Like That”?
It’s a hard-hitting, high-energy song that we had a lot of fun writing and is even more fun to play live.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
We had 10 songs and we wanted another song for this album. About a week before we went into the studio, we all met up to get it done and the whole song ended up getting written from scratch in about 30 minutes. In fact, it came together so well, it became our favorite song and we wanted to release it first.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
We have some things that are up in the air. Hopefully they come together soon.
The single comes off your new album Tell Me How I Feel – what’s the story behind the title?
“Tell Me How I Feel” revolves around how we felt as musicians when our entire world was shut down. Along with the struggles that came with not being able to play music (which we use as an escape), it also hops on the idea that a lot of people feel the need to insert their opinion on other people’s situations.
How was the recording and writing process?
It was tough, but we were determined to get this album done properly. The whole writing process took about 6 months, and we spent a considerable amount of energy in pre-production this time around. We were able to knock out pretty much the entire recording process within a week since we spent so much time crafting the music.
What role does New Orleans play in your music?
Honestly, not a whole lot! The city of New Orleans has not inspired us musically, especially our original music; however, the city definitely has inspired us as performers. Our energy stems from the energy of the city.
What aspect of relationships did you get to explore on this record?
This album displays a wide array of personal feelings and covers multiple types of human interactions. So, like, yeah, a lot of cool stuff!
Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
We found a lot of inspiration in our peers and our friends that are also in bands. A lot of our motivation fed from their motivation and energy. We also found a lot of inspiration in the places we’ve played and all the different people we’ve met. Lyrically, I (Josh) tried to look back on my personal experiences from an objective standpoint rather than an emotional standpoint. I also smoke a lot of pot.
What else is happening next in Neutral Snap’s world?
We don’t know. We’re down for anything. We want our music to reach as many people as possible and we are hoping that this record will accomplish just that!
