Do you have some attractive beauty packaging that you wish you could keep and reuse? Here are five wonderful ways you can do just that.
Presentation is a big part of a product’s success. You can’t just throw a product in a plastic bag and expect it to sell — it needs to catch the consumer’s eye.
This is particularly true of makeup and beauty products. Since the product is meant to catch the eye of someone looking to improve their own beauty, beauty products often come in glamorous and feminine containers.
This packaging can be repurposed for all kinds of projects, too.
Do you have some attractive beauty packaging that you wish you could keep and reuse?
Here are five wonderful ways you can do just that:
1. Body Scrub to Potted Plant
Body scrub needs to be packaged in bigger, wider tubs so that you can dip your fingers in and grab some scrub. The same is true of body butter.
When these containers are empty, they make perfect DIY plant pots.
All you need to do is clean the container out, add soil and a plant, and voila! You have a neat little houseplant.
Make sure you poke holes in the bottom to allow excess water to drain out. Set it on a plate, too, so you don’t end up with spillage.
If the container is pretty enough as is, you don’t need to do anything else but enjoy your new pot. You can even decorate the container with acrylic paint or glue glass beads to the container for an even more glam look.
Prefer to go for a boho or nautical look? You can glue rope around the outside! See a full tutorial here.
2. Empty Jar to Premade Cotton Pads
Have you noticed that there is a severe lack of convenient travel-sized cosmetic containers?
Well, if you have an empty cosmetic container, you can make one yourself!
To do this, wash out an empty cosmetic container. Make sure the width of the container opening will fit a cotton pad. Moisturizer and powder containers work particularly well.
Once you’ve cleaned out the container, add cotton pads and fill it with toner or makeup remover (make one for each, if you like).
These pre-soaked cotton pads are ready to use and great for travel. Carry it in your car or purse to ensure you always have cotton pads on hand!
3. Potted Eyeshadows to Earring Organizer
If you use a lot of potted eyeshadow, you can save the empty ones and transform them into a great earring organizer.
Collect all your old potted eyeshadows and clean them out. Once you have enough, glue them to a wooden serving tray or cutting board.
Before you glue on the pots, you can paint or embellish the board however you like.
Attach the pots in a cool design or spell out your name. Once you have your organizer how you want it, use each individual pot to hold a set of earrings or a ring.
You’ll never have to search for a matching earring set again!
Alternatively, you can glue magnets to the bottom of your eyeshadow pots and attach them to a metal cookie sheet. Finally, glue a ribbon on the back of the cookie sheet, and you can hang it on your wall.
4. Serum to Herbal Tincture
Serums like lactic acid or vitamin boosts come in little oil droppers. These droppers, once empty, are great for repurposing as a medicinal or culinary dispenser.
You can use an empty and cleaned dropper to make a mixture of olive oil or jojoba oil and the essential oils of your choice. Essential oils can do wonders for your skin and overall health!
This article uses rollerballs for dispensing the oil, but it features some great recipes (and droppers work just as well).
You can even make your own herbal tinctures with fresh ingredients. This article gives you plenty of ideas to try out and breaks down how to make each one.
You can also make vanilla extract with cheap vodka and a fresh vanilla pod. Read this baker’s recipe for homemade vanilla extract.
5. Beauty Box to Gift Box
As we’ve already discussed, so many beauty products come in attractive packaging. Even the boxes that hold the containers are pretty.
There’s no reason to throw these durable boxes away. Instead, you can use them to create high-class gift boxes.
Cover any product label with a label of your own, or cover the entire box with scrapbook paper.
You can also use these boxes as jewelry organizers, makeup organizers, or just to hold random lovely things.
If You Can’t Reuse, Recycle
Many companies offer discounts for refilling their products instead of buying new bottles. Other companies may not provide a refill discount, but they do all they can to make it easy to recycle their containers.
Aveda, Le Labo Fragrances, Garnier, MAC, Cote, and Lilah B are just a few of these eco-conscious companies.

Conclusion
When it comes to repurposing beauty product packaging, there’s endless potential. Be creative and let your imagination go wild!
Then, find ways to repurpose other types of packing. You’ll contribute less waste to the already overloaded landfills and enjoy the feeling of pride that comes with turning waste into something useful and beautiful.
Reduce, reuse, and save the environment!
