Making a name for yourself in the film industry is an arduous task that requires as much determination as it does passion. It truly takes a special person who brings something new and exciting to the table in order for them to find stardom in Hollywood. For some lucky few, the talent comes naturally.
Benjamin Ortiz, born in Mexico City, has embraced his passion for acting ever since he was a child. With time and relentless dedication, he has emerged in the film industry as a successful actor. Ortiz plays his first leading role in the new feature film “The Timemaker” directed by Jessica Oberhausen. Not only will his movie be in competition at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival but he’ll also be making a significant appearance in the upcoming American comedy, “Dog”, featuring Channing Tatum premiering in February of 2022.
Ortiz’s story begins in middle school, where he attended acting workshops at CasAzul (Artes Escénicas Argos to improve upon his innate skill. It was there that his love for acting skyrocketed. He continued on that path and eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Acting with a minor in Voiceovers at Columbia College in Chicago, Illinois.
During his time in college, he worked on twelve shorts, four plays, and a handful of voiceover shorts. Ortiz felt his momentum grow as he became part of the US independent film industry and landed his first role in “Bleed American,” directed by T.A. Manchester. Although his part in Manchester’s film was a huge milestone in his career, his first experience in an independent movie backtracks to when he was 16 years old living in Mexico. The film was called “Los Herederos,” and Ortiz labels this as the catalyst of his career, for it allowed him to gain firsthand experience and learn about different areas of filmmaking.
Ortiz has been said to value his craft and doesn’t hesitate to ask questions in order to perfect his ability to prepare for a role. As someone who loves to act in dramas, he truly wants to understand the personality and background of his character in order to give a more realistic performance. Something that Ortiz prioritizes on top of thorough training and preparation is staying true to himself and building authentic relationships within the industry. As a dreamer, he wants to pursue his goals and share his values with those around him.
Though Ortiz is an incredible actor and wants to keep on pursuing his passion, he is also interested in other areas of the industry that he wishes to explore. As a talented musician and singer, he is currently working on his first EP. He finds that music and acting bring him a sense of peace and joy, so naturally, he puts value on both creative worlds and appreciates them in different ways.
Ortiz continues to find new goals to pursue. Some of which include releasing at least one album, opening an acting school with headquarters in different cities, creating a Theatre company, developing a production company, doing a voiceover for Disney, collaborating with other artists, going skydiving, and most importantly, one day be able to give his parents their dream home. Given that Ortiz harnesses a knack for following his dreams, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him achieve each and every goal he’s made for himself.
It’s clear that Benjamin Ortiz not only has the heart to rise above but also possesses the high caliber talent that can carry him to success.
