Singer-songwriter and musician, Cameron Hardy, today released his second single “[cameronhardy.lnk.to/perfume]Perfume” through AWAL on all digital and streaming platforms. “Perfume” releases on the heels of Hardy’s critically acclaimed debut single “I Thought You Were Lonely,” which released last May and has soared to over 2.5M+ streams to date.
“Perfume” marks another track written by Hardy himself, in collaboration with industry heavyweight songwriter Delacey (The Chainsmokers’ “New York City”, Demi Lovato’s “Ruin the Friendship”, Halsey’s “Without Me”), and is produced by Jeff Halatrax (John Legend, Sabrina Carpenter, Selena Gomez) and DAV (Brandyn Burnette, Brianna Mazolla). The vocal production is by Bart Schoudel (Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello, Billie Eilish). “Perfume” is infectious with Hardy’s catchy songwriting pop-hooks, as he delivers a new R&B leaning sound that brings out a sense of rawness to the emotional track. “Perfume” tells a story that many can relate to, yearning to be with an ex that you cannot escape because everything and every turn reminds you of them and the love loss.
Hardy brought on creative producer Andrew Brochetti (Madison Beer, Lauren Jauregui) and director Jackie Kulla (Olivia O’Brien, Absofacto, Alina Baraz) for the music video. A true creative and collaborator at heart, Hardy remained extremely involved throughout the process as he wanted the emotion to be perfectly depicted throughout the visual story. In the video, Hardy is submerged in water, a raw moment that depicts the emotional weight of being torn between an ex and someone new.
We get to sit with him to discuss more about the single and more!
Hi Cameron, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Thank you! I’ve been amazing; super busy and excited for everything I’ve been working on.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Perfume”?
Yes! I’m so excited for this one. It was actually the first song I ever wrote, so I am thrilled that it’s finally coming out after all of these years. I think I was 17 when I wrote it, so it’s about time.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I fell in love with the concept of “Perfume.” I think it sounds super sexy and intriguing. Then I related it to situations and relationships in my personal life.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
It was so much fun. I worked with such a dope team and I’m really happy with how things came out.
How was the recording and writing process?
Writing it was super easy. Figuring out the production and sound of the song took a bit longer, but I’m glad that I took my time on it. I think it’s really cohesive with the rest of my music that’s coming out soon.
What was it like to work with Delacey and how did that relationship develop?
So much fun. I admire her a lot, so when the opportunity presented itself to work with her it was a dream come true. I’m also obsessed with her songs as an artist.
How much did she get to influence the song?
A lot. I was very new to writing at the time, so this was such a blessing to be able to work with her and learn from her.
Known for your work covering other artists – do you tend to take a different approach when covering someone else’s material rather than working on your own original music?
For sure. To be honest, it’s rare for me to love covering songs these days. There’s just something about writing your own music that opens up a whole new realm of creativity.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Absolutely. I hope to have another single or two out before the end of the year. I’m also working on a bigger body of work.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Not that I can say yet, but hopefully soon.
What else is happening next in Cameron Hardy’s world?
Tour! I can’t wait to tour next year. Nothing I can announce quite yet, but that’s definitely in the works.
