“I feel like we live two lives at once,” says Aisha Badru, the singer-songwriter whose whispery observations have evolved, in just three short years, into evocative assurance. “For me, it’s that image of what I thought I was, and then watching that person die by the hand of truth. Being reborn.”
Returning on August 6th with the purifying new single “The Way Back Home”, Aisha presents to us a more mature perspective on relationships and a realisation that you cannot hold onto anyone when they’re destined for something, or someone, else. In its aural form, the track is the embodiment of the idea that “if you love something, set it free.”
Blending together both earthy and folky soundscapes to shape a song that’s outlined by Badru as the “heart” of the new forthcoming EP, the track reminisces back to a younger Aisha where she vowed to move away and leave home in search for something greater.
Accompanying the single is a stunning lyric video both directed and animated by Tash Tully, portraying images that follow an intricate hand drawn map of the world alongside a gorgeous fleurette compass that dictates the untrodden path that Aisha will soon go on to explore.
Lifted from her upcoming EP, ‘The Way Back Home’ (out December 3), this new project from Aisha continues her streak in earnestly constructed harmonies and well-rounded ambience within her music, proving yet again her power and wisdom as a singer-songwriter. While writing ‘The Way Back Home’, Aisha expresses, “I knew exactly what to say without thinking about it. It was as if I was writing exactly from my heart.” The new EP is a glimpse into her spirit where each new track gradually exposes another piece of Aisha’s soul – the title track, “The Way Back Home” being the first revitalizing installment.
