Respected Character Actor Luis Guzman Takes On the Role of Gomez in New “Addams Family” Spinoff “Wednesday”

If you’re a filmmaker that truly wants to class up the joint with your latest cinematic magnum opus, you can do no better than casting one of the best character actors to ever wander down the pike, Mr. Luis Guzman. The proof is in the proverbial English pudding: Paul Thomas Anderson is a talented director who has had the good fortune in casting Guzman in a number of his films such as Boogie Nights, Magnolia and Punch Drunk Love. Guzman’s unique and off-center delivery in those films specifically are a phenomenon to marvel over; funny, bittersweet with a performance that always feels real and nuanced, this Puerto Rican master thespian leaves no stone unturned when discovering the beautiful beating heart of whichever character he is playing, bringing a serving of the heartfelt to each production he graces. And speaking of film productions, according to our Traffic-watching pals over at Variety, the upcoming Addams Family spinoff Wednesday just hit the Daily Double with its casting of the resplendent Mr. Guzman as none other than the patriarch of that little family, Gomez Addams.

 Stepping into the oversized shoes of Charles Addams’ classic character of Gomez Addams is never an easy one: John Astin, Raul Julia and Tim Curry are a few of the heavyweights that have done commendable work with that character. Joining those hallowed ranks in the latest spin on the kookiest family on the block outside of The Munsters is Luis Guzman, who will serve as a solid supporting player for actress Jenny Ortega’s rendition of Wednesday Addams in an upcoming Netflix series entitled Wednesday.

 Wednesday has been described by the PR gremlins at Netflix as a “supernaturally infused mystery” which will follow Morticia’s and Gomez daughter Wednesday Addams as she navigates through the highs and lows of being a student at Nevermore Academy. Think of it as Harry Potter Meets Dawson’s Creek with a biting dash of Charles Addams thrown in for good measure.  So when can you see all of this Luis Guzman awesomeness?
