Black or Red? The different odds in Roulette

Roulette- a popular casino game.

Roulette is, without a doubt, one of the most popular casino games out there. However, no matter how much you think roulette is easy, there is always more to learn, and it is important that you familiarize yourself with the chance of winning. Roulette has a specific mathematical probability of winning, and the odds of winning are influenced by the type of roulette and the extra rules applied to it.

Always remember, European roulette has better player odds than American roulette. Today we will briefly explain the odds in roulette, but to know more checkout Stardust Casino.

The odds and payout of roulette.

Let’s have a look at the odds and payouts you can expect from roulette. We will also define the odds between European roulette and American roulette, so you can see the difference and why we say European roulette has better player odds.

Simply put, outside bets have a better chance of winning than inside bets. However, outside bets have smaller payouts. It is also important to remember that the likelihood of red or black winning is not exactly 50/50; it is just below that at 48.60% in European roulette, and 47.4% in American roulette. Neither is better than the other.

Odds and payouts for outside bets.

Outside bets are best for those who like to play it safe. These bets have much better odds at winning. They are popular as they are known as ‘even money’ bets because they will typically cover half of the possible outcomes except 0 or 00 (in American roulette). These bets include red or black, even or odd, 1-18 or 19-36.

These bets all have a chance of winning that is around 50%, or close to, generally have a 48.65% chance in European roulette and 47.37% chance of winning in American roulette. Due to the high likelihood of a win, the payout is 1:1.

Dozen and Column also fall into this category, and they cover 12 numbers on the table. The probability of these is roughly a third, or a little less, due to the 0 and 00 slots. The payout for these are 2:1.

Odds and payouts for inside bets.

Inside bets have a smaller chance of winning, these include betting on a single number, or on a small group of them. You can group these numbers in various ways, but each group is related to the position of the numbers on the table. Inside bets have significantly lower odds of winning than outside bets, however their payout is significantly better.

You could bet a straight, on one number, or a split which is two number neighbors. A street which has three number neighbors, a corner which is four numbers in a corner, a double street which is two rows, or a basket which is only available in American roulette which allows you to bet on zero or double zero and is a five number bet.

It all depends on if you’d rather have the safety, or the payout. It really is a game of chance.
