Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi, thanks! We’ve been doing well, considering everything.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Walking Sea”?
‘Waking Sea’ is the latest single from our forthcoming album. It’s a grooving psychedelic track featuring strings and a theremin solo.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
The lyrics were inspired by our singer’s car accident and learning to find peace in the wreckage. She was driving in Venice when a truck pulled into her lane without looking and her car flipped over a truck bed. The song deals with coming to terms with our fate and learning to overcome whatever obstacles we’re facing.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
Yes, the music video is out now! Watch it here.
The single comes off your new album One with the Waking Sea – what’s the story behind the title?
Most of the songs on our upcoming album were written while our singer healed from injuries from a car accident and lost the ability to play music and perform live for a couple of years. The song lyrics and album title were motivated by her journey to recovery and making peace with the trauma, becoming one with the ebb and flow of our lives.
How was the recording and writing process?
The songs originated from Amir and Jeanna, with either one bringing the core of the song with a guitar progression or vocal melody, then building upon each-other’s idea. After the foundation or more of the song is written, it is brought to the rest of the band, where new life is breathed into it. We recorded at 4th Street Recording in Santa Monica with our beloved engineer and co-producer, Sejo Navajas, who we have worked and become close friends with since recording our first album together in 2013.
What role does Venice Beach play in your music?
It definitely permeates being close to the ocean. We’re on the somewhat quieter side of Venice, so it’s more of the water and wildlife that inspire us.
What aspect of your own personal lives did you guys get to explore on this record?
Since we (Jeanna and Amir) are the core of the band, our journey as a couple comes through in the music/lyrics. Whether or not a particular song is about us, it captures a vibe that represents us at that moment in time.
Where else did you find inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Much of the lyrics relate obstacles to the laws of the natural universe to make sense of it all and learn to accept our fate in order to transcend and heal from it.
What else is happening next in Little Galaxies’ world?
In addition to preparing to release our new album and getting ready for shows in the fall, we have some more music videos on the way, as well as some live videos, which includes newly written material.
